Default Recording Stepmania

I can't seem to ever get a good recording of Stepmania - it always comes out choppy and impossible to tell what you're watching. I've tried Camstudio, Hypercam, and BBFlashback and none of them get good recordings... any help?

By the way, I can't record sound on my computer (No Mic), but that really doesn't matter since I already have the songs and just have to sync them up... I don't think this would affect the overall recording in any way, though.

Camstudio works fairly well for me (albeit with a little bit of lag...). You might try windowing Stepmania and shrinking the window until you're at a point where it's possible to both record and play at the same time (with minimum lag).

As for the sound thing, under options, choose 'Record audio from speakers'; then go to Audio Options-Audio Options for Speakers, and either manually or automatically search for your 'line'.

After that, recording both audio and video should go somewhat more smoothly. Hope it helps~

Most stick by SnagIt! or Fraps, by my experience.

I'll try both those out...

I tried both those... both had rather choppy recording still, and Fraps only let me record for 30 seconds (I'm not going to go buy anything, by the way). I just don't know

Try 30FPS in SnagIt instead of the default 15 or 5 or whatever...see what that does.

If it's choppy still then you have one of two problems...

Either your system is dead old (Pentium 3 or older) or you don't have a good enough video card or don't have one period outside of integrated ones that suck.

Buying a new comp or getting a new vid card would probably help. If it's a relatively new comp then I would wonder if you have Vista or something...

I remember making a shoddy video with camstudio once.
It was like, 30 FPS, but it wasn't choppy.

Run DXDiag and tell us what your video card is like.

To get to DXDiag; open Start menu, click 'Run', type in DXDiag, hit Enter.

What you need to look at under DXDIAG (start, run, type 'dxdiag' and hit ENTER) is the following:

Under the system tab...
- Processor
- Memory
- DirectX Version

Under the display tab...
- Device Name
- Device Apx. Total Memory

Post those here.

I guess that my (pentium celeron) comp will not be able to handle it. I've tried SnagIt and Hypercam and the results weren't good.

It's a Celeron, 1st gen? That's really old...If the processor clock is like...300MHz you need a new comp.

Celerons are low-end processors anyways. They're definitely not the best suited for anything in terms of video.

Actually, Camstudio can record well, you just need the right compression codec.

Undercut's codec works VERY well for me, so try it out.

Actually it's a 1 GHz processor. Some say it's equivalent to pentium 4. With those specs, my pc was just able to run stepmania (albeit some lags can happen) and it can get real messy with randommovies/bg videos and some announcers.
