Remixing songs

Hey guys, just have a little question.

How do the simfile creators remix songs? Like, what program do they use, and do they extract certain part of a song to edit or do they create the whole song based on listening to the original song? If this question has been asked before, kindly refer me to the thread. Thanks in advance.

I prefer Cool Edit. All the flashy lights are so fun.

I use use Cool Edit for minor editing like cutting the lenght of songs and such. Easy and simple.
