This tutorial is great! I just have one more question that I dont seem to find an answer to anywhere else; how do i put in video to play in the background when the simulation is playing? And does it need to be any specific format. I have seen avi and mpg used, but I don't understand the "bgchange" part pf the .sm-file. Can anyone enlighten me?

EDIT: I'm stupid and please ignore me. I just fond the appropriate thread.

Question how do you know when you found the offset correctly? I tried the way Patashu mentioned and slow it down to .3 untill the 1st arrow sounds on sync with the 1st measure but after setting a set of 4th notes for 30 seconds it seems to slowly go off sync. I tried the Mixmeister program to find the bpm so I asume the bpm is correct so how do you know when the offset is corrected then or I just havn't found the correct offset then?

This almost always means your bpm is not correct. It's cause you "assumed" the BPM was correct. Assuming things is dangerous. I have a feeling your gap is correct, because of the way you described it.

EDIT: Your BPM may be off by about 0.1.

depending on what type of song you have, it may slow down or speed up in which case most bpm finders will not be able to pinpoint the bpm.

Someone had a problem where they we're making a new simfile but it wouldn't show up when they went to edit it, if you have that problem try using the reload songs/courses option in the SM operator. If that doesn't work, make a folder named the song name and have just the soundfile then reload and go into Edit/Sync songs and just make the file from there!

What is the error (StepMania should tell you when it crashes)?

sorry for the delayed reply. it's a .dwi file, and i know it should work with SM, when I open the file in notepad, everything seems to be in order.

however the song and the file doesn't show up on the songlist. however, i can see that the file is there if i go to edit the steps.

i might have to upload this file just to show you what i'm talking about, but as i stated before this file works on DWI, but not on SM.
