however the song and the file doesn't show up on the songlist. however, i can see that the file is there if i go to edit the steps.

i might have to upload this file just to show you what i'm talking about, but as i stated before this file works on DWI, but not on SM.
try reloading the songs in the options menu. That seems to fix a lot of problems similar to this.

Default BG Movie question

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good program that I can use to cut scenes out of movies so I can use them for Backgrounds in simfiles. I really want to add in the Background videos for all of my Lion King and Lion King 2 simfiles I have posted on here but don't know how to go about doing that. I have the DVD's already, just need to know of a good and hopefully easy program I can use to get the BG's out of the movie ^^. Thanks for taking the time to read my question and thank you in advance to anyone who can give me any advice.

It looks like you've already tried the things I would suggest, so I kinda want to take a look at the simfile now. Upload the file and I'll try playing around with it in SM to see what is causing the problem.

i've 3.9 and 3.95 but with 3.95 i can't create a simfile really good because the menu of the level editor is bad.

I have a problem with my simfile. I want the artist to say "DJČ", but the "Č" part of it shows up as a box x-ed out. I know there is a way to do this because i've seen similar things on MAX 300's "Ω" symbol for the artist. The dwi/sm file says #DISPLAYARTIST:{MAX 300-CHAR.PNG}; so I tried creating a .PNG file that sayed "DJČ", but it didn't work. What should I do? Thx

Those character symbols are only for the DWI program; SM won't use them itself.

The problem is that SM supports unicode, which is where those symbols (the Ω, Č, etc) are appearing from. It appears that for, whatever reason, your computer has decided not to display the unicode. I know I had this problem before, and I can't quite remember what I ended up doing to fix it. Either I changed something in the Windows Regional Settings (language settings), or the fix was in SM itself. I'll dig into it.

Try doing it in a DWI file instead of an SM file and see if that works.

i sent you the file via PM. here is the file uploaded through Rapidshare for anyone else who wants to take a look.

this file was originally found on ddrei.com a few years back when it still hosted songs. all credit should go to the original authors.

Found the problem. There is a missing # before the step data. As soon as that is added into the dwi file, it laods up perfectly fine.

Hey, is there an extremely precise bpm measuring program (more than the two decimal places SM's editor uses at least)? I'm trying to do a step file for "Shoot To Thrill" and the beats start out great but fall off after a few measures.

You could try Dancing Gorilla, though it's not the most reliable thing in the world it does pinpoint the exact BPM. Sometimes it can really suck though, also note it hogs your RAM.

But really, you're BPM is probably just off by like .1, or .2 because I never have this difficulty, or the song has very slight tempo changes which means you really have work to do.

I've given up on it, largely because it's an AC/DC song recorded on equipment that may not have been as advanced as some of the programs I used in trying to create steps (it was recorded in 1980). I tried DG, but it gave up after reaching a large number of stops. Is this a problem?
