Default skipping songs

I was just wondering if anyone has been experiencing the same problem as I with songs randomly skipping by a fraction of a second. It's been happening for quite some time, but now it's getting rather annoying (Getting marvelous and perfect in a crazy stream, only to have it skip a bit and break the chain). Any clue on solving this?

I'm having the same issue as well. What Stepmania build are you running, as well as theme?

Im using 3.95 CVS with Groove 2.2 theme.

And in case it's necessary, I'm running:
2.2 ghz processor
512 MB ram
256 MB Ge-Force 5500oc graphics card

It's happened with me occasionlly too (on 3.9), almost always with songs that have background videos.

It happens with a lot of non-bg video songs to me. I have a feeling it may have to do with .mp3 format (wild guess). I dont have much trouble with .ogg files

I've had this problem but for me it's clearly a computer-lag issue.
How many songs do you have and does it happen right away or after playing a few songs? It's probably due to a lack of RAM. Consider turning off other programs running in the backgroud, expshaly prossesor and memory intensive one like virus scanners, bit-torrent clients, iTunes and such.

This sort of thing happens to me here and there randomly. The way I see it I think the hard drive might be like burping, like it gought caught up with some data or something in general like Mooga said its lag

First and foremost, if you are having this problem, make sure you are running a stable build of StepMania. I had a problem with certain MP3-based songs skipping strangely every time I played them in StepMania. Upgrading to 3.9 Final fixed this, and I've never seen it again.

I have occasionally in the past had a problem with some stages with BGchanges causing seemingly random skips (but not like the ones using a 3.9 RC version). Changing reducing the movie colordepth setting to 16-bits and reducing the maximum texture size has always fixed this for me on more than one computer.

Running stepmania 3.9 with no modifications to it. I noticed the skipping seems to happen at round about the same point in the songs, give or take a few seconds. It shouldn't be too much of a problem hardware wise, running on an Asus laptop with these specs:

Windows XP SP2
AMD 64 Turion mobile (1.8ghz)
1GB Ram
GeForce go 7300 (256MB)
80GB HD (2 partitions)

I've got about 20GB HD space left so don't think it's that, however i haven't defraged for quite some time, could be a possibility.

it's definately not the specs, try a disk cleanup (not a defrag) and if that fails reinstall your nvidia drivers/update them or even reinstall stepman
