Press Start, Select, and Up at the same time.
Switches it from Gamepad to Dance Pad mode.

Well, uh, you're gonna have to remap the arrows/buttons after you do it.

Alright. If this doesn't work, then you have a faulty adapter.

1) Plug in your adapter with the pad attached.
2) Hold down Up, Start, and Select for 5 seconds(just to be safe)
3) Start up StepMania and go into options.
4) Go to Configure Keyboard/Pad Input, or whatever it is.
5) Change the buttons in accordance to your pad.

Chances are, once you map the arrows, every time you plug it in after unplugging it, you'll have to hold Up, Start, and Select for however many seconds again just to switch the button mode.

I'd suggest the RedOctane Universal adapter.
