There was a walk through on the stepmaniaonline Wiki.
However, their wiki is currently down.
But when I remember reading is that it's hard to get and install the programon a windowns box (since you would have to compile it yourself). Doing it on a linux box is easier... if you know what you are doing.

I wouldn't play on an SMO server run by someone who doesn't understand the concept of legible colors and proper English.

BTW, Vospi, your music pwns.

Well, first of all do you know some programming methods?

And the most important to get it running, if you have it online and not just over a LAN, you'd need to have the proper bandwith. (which you would have trouble getting at home, so you would need to find a host that will keep the server connected to a backbone connection)

Many local ISP's would probabaly do this, my parents have a website business and they go to a local ISP called atlantic.net for hosting, but I do not know how much it costs, or the bandwidth, but you would need a high one.

I read somewhere that with streaming music at 128 kbps, that 12 56k connections will take all of that bandwidth, so take that into consideration as well.

As far as I'm concerned, there's a precompiled commandline Win32 SMO server:

Here it is: SMOnline 2.5 rc2

I tried once an earlier version, and you can specify a database it'll be based on =)

Have fun

Have you ever managed any sort of web server?
Is this a web server or a local server?

I guess what I'm asking is if you know what you are doing with networking and the internet...

At least the SMOnline server is just... the SMO server. If you want to complement it with a web server, that's another story....

I don't know if this is the same thing I saw before or not. I thought what I saw before was made by the SM team...

Charles made it I believe so it should be fine, at best unless you have a server box you better use it only for LAN parties dood.

If he's running it from a home conection he will probably also have to do port forwarding (and geting a free DNS might help).
