Stepmania Tech Problems

Post any problems with hardware/software here.

BASIC PROBLEMS:

I can't press up+down!
For some pads you will need to set them to dance mod. This can be done differently depending on your converter. Check stepmaina.com for more help on that. Other converters do NOT suport dance mode. The radioshack converter (which is easy to find) does NOT work with dance pads!

When I try to start the screen just black out and doesn't run!
Make sure you have the most up-to-date video and sound drivers.
Worse case: re-install SM.

I'm stuck in Free Mode!!!
Press F3 untill it's bad to the mode you need

I got a good one for you, the RO unlock type in the unlocks.dat crashes stepman randomly... its not constant and its only on some computers, got a fix for that?

Speaking of unlocks, anyone know a way to lock the Challenge level steps only (like the ITG PC version demo did) in SM 3.9 final or the 4.0 builds?

I'm not quite sure if it applies but why does SM4.0 ALWAYS load all 2509 of my songs twice? It takes ages to load because it reloads every one of my songs.

Is that just an annoying setting or what?

My SM is centered off-screen but I can't get it back because I can't see anything >_<!

Try looking in the Stepmania.ini file. It might be a bit tampered with. If it's fullscreen and doing it, try going to Windowed and setting it to one.

It's posible that you have the following line in Preferences.ini:

AdditionalSongFolders=C:\Program Files\StepMania\Songs

If it is, remove it.

Somewhere is options you can move SM around your screen. if you can get there, that should help you out

metrics.ini. Should work in a 4.0 build. Don't know about 3.9.

Could you tell me the exact keys to press to get to the centre image/windowed mode (i.e. three down, enter, four down, enter, left, ...) ? So then I can do it without being able to see. I tried re-installing but it remembers the preferences.

Well I don't know if this will help you but try with this

- In control panel select game devices
- Maybe there exist the option to disable axis mapping
So with this u can press up + down at the same time

It's set to my Other Songs folder because I didn't wanna copy my 10 GB of songs again. The Stepmania Online songs folder itself is completely empty. And yet, it loads the songs again. I think I may have accidentally put AdditionalFolders in there, too. I'll check.

I have a problem whenever I have a stepfile that has lots and lots of bpm configurations and changes etc.

It's like my computer seems to lag and lag when I play something like Chaos or something that has lots of BPM stops and changes etc.

Do I need to upgrade my Stepmania?

I have a problem I have about 10 gigs worth of songs in my sm 4.0 folder. In previous builds 3.9 and 3.95 online build" it would quickly go from dance to song wheel, results screen to song wheel, with no real long wait. However, in sm 4.0 I'm noticing an ammount of wait a good 5 to 10 seconds of waiting. not to mention credits to start screen is a good 20 seconds. Anyone knows why theres such a long pause?
