I have always had this "problem". It's simply that your computer has to check for the songs. Try turning off other programs running in the background that can be using up your ram or prossesor...

I upgraded to SM CVS, and now my backgrounds disappear. Is there any way to fix this?

Basically... Just go to options > Background Options > Mode > Off

Switch Animations to off... Thats why it is disappearing... It goes to your BGAnimations Folder for videos or pics. And if there is none then BG gets removed.

I'm running Ubuntu Linux Dapper Drake, StepMania 4.0 CVS 20060625, and sound does not work. It works with 3.9 and with everything else, just not SM.

EDIT: I thought I'd post the error messages that spewed out when I opened it in a command line:

I am using 3.9 and have a majority of the songs with movies in the background. My only problem with them is that when I am playing it sometimes doesn't register my steps. While this only happens about once every few songs, it does mess up some of my perfect scores, where up to 10 steps could have not registered. With songs without movies, it doesn't do this error, so it is obviously movies. I don't want to disable movies, but what could I do to make this error go away, if possible, without disabling movies?

It doesn't happen much, as I said, so if no solution is found, then its no biggy. Its just more of an annoyance at times than anything...

I have a similar problem where my computer sometimes lags funny on songs with videos. This is because your computer is just getting overloaded.

If you are using a keyboard, disabling the videos should work.
If you are using a dacepad it could be problems with that...

Keyboard: I'd rather deal with that lag then delete lots of .sm files...
Pad: It rarely does it with a pad. Heh.

Although in 4.0, I don't get the lag...

Thanks anyway.

Looking to use SM4.0 for network play... But want to use 3.9 for single player play(my themes & personal scores & stuff... plus... I just don't trust 4.0 entirely yet...)

It says over in the SMO wiki to go to Stepmania CVS\Save\Preferences.ini to ge it to link to other songs... I don't have a whole lot of disc space, and want to use the AdditionalSongFolders=Stepmania\Songs thing... But there's no Save folder in the 4.0's files! Any help?

The Save Folder is in your My Documents.

You must use the whole directory code. like:
Too access stuff on SM 3.9 Final Songs should look like this:

Code:
AdditionalSongFolders=C:\Program Files\StepMania\Songs

Ya I knew to use the whole directory code... The post I saw had my documents, but I thought it was maybe that that guy installed SMCVS into his documents...

Thanks, Jubo!

EDIT: Bigger problem... Arrows aren't showing up in Overhead mode... Only in the mods, like Hallway, etc. Also... I can't seem to change my settings(I want to turn mines on & set it back to overhead[to see if it works]) in network play

Sounds like it could be a skin problem...

(Thanks for the cover Jubo)

I'm not using a skin in 4.0... just the default settings... But arrows don't show up in Overhead...
