What do you mean you can't get it to work?

Have you updated your video and sound drivers?
If you are running from a fresh install of windows you might need to get drivers...

I'm having kind of a weird issue with SM3.9 - my characters are all off the screen to the right. I can see a random hand or leg dancing once and awhile, but I cant seem to figure out how to get them repositioned to the center/correct place.

I tried searching for a similar problem/solution, but no one seems to ever have encountered this (at least, not in a thread I could find anywhere).

I have the bones files installed correctly, as the Beginner mode dancer works fine - it's just any mode above that (or without the beginner dance pad in place) has the characters way off to the right.

Edit (Solution Found): I dont know exactly WHAT was causing the problem, but uninstalling and reinstalling 3.9 fixed it - if anyone hits the issue again.

I just got Groove 2.2 and when I get on the title screen it gets out of stepmania, what's up?

Also is there a way I can start on a different theme?

I've just installed the abovementioned build, and it runs nicely... except it leaves memory data on my USB drives. I don't want it to go there; how do I remedy this situation?

Hey guys, I'm having a very irritating problem. While playing a song on SM or ITG, the graphics will 'freeze' and jerk a little. It happens randomly; at least once every other song. The music itself doesn't freeze though, it keeps going normally and it doesn't become out of sync.

So far I've tried messing around with the options, upgrading/downgrading my video card drivers, switching from Direct3d rendering to OpenGL. It doesn't happen on any other game I play. Has anyone had this problem before? Does anyone have any suggestions? It's gotten to the point where I just can't stand playing it. Thank you!

Have you tried getting a new video card or a better processer? My old 2000 used to do that a lot until I got my newer XP with a better video card (not integrated) and a Pentium II Processer (might be faster, not sure). And StepMania looks pretty damn good on it. Also, if you don't want to burn the money, you can try going into the graphics options on StepMania. Turn VSync on and set the resolution down a bit (the text will be a little blurry, but shouldn't be unreadable). If you need to set the resolution down so low that you can't read it, it's time for a new video card/processer.

StepMania/Data/GamePrefs.ini, change the theme for Dance back to default, or any other theme you want (just make sure it's spelled right, not Caps Sensitive).

My friend had that problem, but it would only happen like once every 5-6-7 songs...

I think that it's just processor speed and/or RAM. Are you running lots of other programs (Internet, music player, AIM, other random crap) at the same time?

You could try just reinstalling it and see if that does anything (though I don't see how stepmania could itself be the problem)

I should probably add that it used to run smoothly, no problems whatsoever. I stopped playing for a month, and when I get back into it, it starting causing problems...so I doubt it's a hardware problem. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try tuning the graphics down a bit.

EDIT: Changing the graphics options didn't change anything. It still happens randomly.

Have you installed anything that requires a lot of RAM to be used or use an extensive amount of your computer between now and then?

i didnt know where to post this but..
i cant play some songs becuase my computer only allows 2 keys to be held down simultaneously. it beeps if you hold more than that and it wont register. is there any way to turn this off?

No. And, if you have a normal keyboard, you should be able to hit LDR and DUR. The only way to change this is to go into the in-game options menu in StepMania and enable "Hands Off" under Freezes. My advice: go buy and old keyboard from a garage sale. Perfect SM Keyboard for $4 ftw.
