Marketplace Rating: 2 | Stepmania working with A USB Flash Drive? Alright, I was thinking one day at the arcade after a round of ITG, and I said "well In The Groove is basicly stepmania, so how did they get memory cards to work?"
Alright, so back to the main question... Is There any way you can make a USB Flash Drive load custom songs onto Stepmania without saving them to the game itself, or is this not even possible at all?

AdditionalSongFolders in the \data\stepmania.ini file
so if your drive is F:\ and the location of the folder is \songs, it will be like this:
AdditionalSongFolders=F:\songs\
...or
are you talking about a stepmania installation on a flash drive?

All you need to do is set AdditionSongFolders to the same letter that your stick uses when its plugged in. The option is on the 15th line in the .ini, should be fairly easy to spot.

1.- Turn on your PC (LOL)
2.- Wait until Windows is loaded, then go to My PC
3.- Plug your USB flash drive
4.- Look at what drive is it identified as. Look at this image:
As you can see, Windows recognizes my flash drive as F:
5.- Open Stepmania.ini and in the AdditionalSongFolders= line, add the corresponding route.
So, in my case, if I have a folder called "songs" in the flash, I have to add F:\Songs\
However, I want to know... SM loads the songs from the flash drive each time a "credit" is played? Or SM has to be restarted each time one plugs a flash drive?

AdditionalSongFolders=
replace it with this:
AdditionalSongFolders=F:\Songs\

So removal of that device at all would lead to a necessary reload of the list.

Marketplace Rating: 0 | StepMania currently does not support custom songs per game with a flashdrive, so you're out of luck if you don't want to reload after each game. However, I know I and a few other people are working on support for it, so the source may find its way into StepMania within a few versions.
