Two questions: CD title & text in backgrounds/banners

I have two questions:

For the CD title portion of my stepfile, how should I design it? Is there some sort of (unsaid) standard on how it should look like (other than that it should preferably be PNG?)

And also, why in alot of stepfile backgrounds and banners, I see aliased text? (Not that there's anything wrong with it, and I am not trying to offend anyone )

For the CD titles, just create any design you want provided that it's at most 64x40, has a transparent background, and of course, .png.

The aliased bgs are probably due to people not having a good picture-editing program such as Photoshop.

My personal preference for CD titles is no larger than 80x60 and I generally like to put in an 80-90% transparency so that it has partial see-through. Using 100% transparency tends to be a bit problematic for me...and obviously you're only going to get this from PNG and an editor capable of saving transparency information (Photoshop, for starters).

the CD title can really be whatever size you want it, there isn't a rule of how big or small it has to be.. some people even use this to their advantage to create neat theme tricks.

the text is also an easy thing to do, but personal recommendations will be to use photoshop to implement it in.
