Post, what do you think about them.
Are they error?
Are they good?
Are they just making sim harder?

Oh yeah, and we are talking about PAD stepfiles.

I try to avoid doublestepping in my simfiles. Personally, using the same foot to hit 2 different arrows just feels akward to me and it also disrupts the flow of the arrows especially in fast streams.

I hate double steps. and they are even worse when someone puts too many in one simfile.

Having double-stepping in pad files is a sign that the person put very little effort into making it.

I still say the only fun/good pad chart that involves double-stepping is HVAM Heavy, where the double-steps in the end stream actually go to a sound in the song.

Of course there are some sims where it is quite obvious that steps were placed at complete random, but to make this statement as a generalization is outright insane, certain songs simply give simwriters a goofy feel of how the steps should feel. This leads to a moderate ammount of double steps getting placed here and there. Of course if that is the main focus of the song then it can get quite annoying.

Some other good sims like this to point out: End of the Century, think ya better D, Furuhata's Theme, Get Up'N Move, Superstar (FNSMM)... there are plenty of examples where it was done in a way that was not completely obnoxious. But since this thread is mostly about homemade sims this is technically irrelevant.

To answer simply, there are some songs where there are appropriate times to place double steps. This holds the same truth with every type of step, normal stream, crossovers, freeze arrows... why should double steps be any different? Just use when appropriate.

Too much doublestepping in user made simfiles won't give them a chance in winning the best step maker, and it takes away the fun especially if playing them by R21.

A little doublestepping is ok, as long as they remain little and necessary.

If there's too much in a file, it ruins the fun

and btw, storyoftheyear, did you just mention r21? it exist in our place?!

it all depends on how it's pulled off.. it can be either good or bad. Things like tempo and music sync play a BIG role in that.

If done well (HVAM, EOTC, etc.) then I have no problem with it, but otherwise it really annoys the heck out of me.

The way I see it double stepping is only necessary if it matches well with the song, but don't over do it. Everything has to be well balanced, not to many crossovers, jumps, crazy insane steam that goes on through the whole song and never ends, and has nothing to do with the rythim, can ruin any stepfile. Of course this is only if it's for the pad, if it was for the keyboard....kinda free for all, but hey I haven't made anything for stepmania in ages.
