Default What does that shield icon mean next to a song name in StepMania?

So this is something that's bugged me for awhile, but I haven't gotten around to asking anybody about it, until now.

Next to the title of many of my songs in StepMania on the song selection wheel is this yellow and green icon that looks kind of like a shield. Here's a picture, with the icon/shield in question circled in fresh blood red.

So, what does this icon mean? I've tried looking at a couple different things, but I just haven't been able to figure it out.

It has a level 1 light mode and does not have a stepchart thats over 10. (Ie not red font.)

And from Katamari Damacy game, the item is a badge for beginning drivers. Meaning Beginner. So this would be a song for a beginning driver/dancer would play.

Oh, so it displays the icon if the light mode version of the song is at or below a certian number of feet? And if so, how many feet?

Here we go.

The little shield appears whenever your DDR file has a level 1 Light, AND is not Red Text (Like Sakura)

For example "Ajisai no Hana" is a Level 1 and has the shield. It is also not red text.

Baroque Howdown though is a 1 but is in red text. That means it has a 10+ heavy not allowing it to be have the shield.

I always thought it was there to show that there were Beginner steps. Maybe I was wrong though...

What? Are you sure; all of my simfiles have the shield and some of them do not have a level 1 Light.

Case in Point:

Yeah, so what's the deal? I've always thought it means a song has beginner steps.

The shield just means there are beginner steps, it's not some ultra-crazy stuff. (So, yeah, A La Menthe and Chik Habit gain the shield.)

Its for beginner...

if its like on level one... then having a Heavy Difficulty on 1 footers (which is lvl 1, right?) means going to have a shield beside the song. well it does not show when I make my simfiles... or some one made 1 footer light or medium or heavy or oni.

It's funny how misused that symbol is in Stepmania. I can tell you this.
The symbol does mean a driver in training in Japan, and in DDR, it's used to mean songs that first timers and beginners should try first.
It was first used in the 5th Mix, and it marks the songs that are 1 and 2 feet on Light. (Remember that 5th Mix does not have a beginner difficulty)

So am I right when I say the following?

In SM, it signals the presence of Beginner steps.

In DDR, it means the song is a one-footer on light/
