Default Your opinion: Do one handers have it hard?

I want to see you guys' opinion on this. Do you think one handed players have more difficulty playing StepMania/FFR?

I, myself, play one handed. I don't find it all that hard. I can see how playing with two hands allows for more challenging songs, but I find it hard to understand how they have the coordination.

So tell me what you think!

I play two handed index and I couldn't last on some of the songs i do with only one hand. I actually use to play 2 thumbs on a controller before i had stepmania which got me into the habit of coordination between two fingers on separate hands.

I play one handed, too. I tried playing two once, and I failed immediately. >_>

Its basically anyone's personal opinion whether or not one handed is harder. its like asking if using the bar is easier then not using the bar.

I know I cant play with one hand, cause i'm not THAT good. Coordination is basically the key, and if you have it, then you can do anything with your fingers. Of course, people might disagree with that as well.

So yea, i think one handed players have it harder.

Two handed coordination in something like this, for someone who is relatively decent on an actual pad and playing non-spread, is more of an imitation of their foot style while two-stepping crossovers. This tends to be true for two handed play on both controller and keyboard.

This is true, at least for people around me and myself, I won't attest that it is true for everyone. Though I would suggest giving it a shot with this idea, it helps.

I find using one hand is also much harder for you to get perfect timing in your steps. If your fingers are anything close to mine, they tend to be linked together a little--for example, your pinky finger often goes down with your ring finger uncontrollably.

If you want to get some better timing, I say two handed is better for it.

I use one hand. I like it. But then again, it's just preference. I started playing StepMania one handed. Then I realized my sister started playing using two hands. We both tried each others playing style [Me do two hands, she play with one] and we both sucked. So, In my opinion, whatever you start with, is what you're good at.

As for the question directed. I don't find it hard to complete 15 footers with one hand. Not boasting, cause I hate boasting in all forms. It's cause I have no life and play SM like a drug.

But I don't believe one handers should be able to use the excuse "I can't do that song cause I only play with one hand".

But that's my opinion.

Damn. I do that too, I have a good PA, but I can't go much higher then a 12.

By the way... does anyone know what a "roll" is? I hear about them all the time, but am not sure what they are...

Btw: happy halloween, BemaniStyle.

exactly right for me... that's how i started playing stepmania and never switched to anything else.

i've tried playing one-handed but as you can guess i sucked massively

@whoever was asking: a 'roll' is something in ITG2 and SM 3.95 & 4.0. It is similar to a freeze arrow except you have to repeatedly hit the respective arrow (i think it's 3 times per second... not sure on the exact figure)

i definately prefer one-handed.. although havent tried two much at all..

my problems.. im still on my laptop.. i use arrow keys.. theyre pretty small for one..

and my ring finger is my serious archilles heal.. i use my ring, middle and index fingers. any up/right or down/right drills can be issues if theyre fast enough.. even up/down drills can be as i only use one finger for them.. actually any up/down freezes with extra arrows during the freeze can be issues also. gets tricky..

I use my thumb on the down arrow, that's how I do those one-handed.

yea it's like a jack... only it looks... well... actually... it looks like a cross between a jack and a freeze (a spiky freeze).

I do okay with either.. I usually play on my feet but when I index

I think two-handed is a bit easier though, I can play songs that are a bit too hard for me to one-hand if I'm using two

I'm mostly a pad player but when I play on the keyboard I also use one hand. It's just the most comfortable way for me to play but everyone has their own style. I think that when you start playing on higher difficulties using one hand can get very challenging but it's not impossible.
