Default [BMS Event] IIDX:Tournament Edition 3

Since it hasn't been announced on bemanistyle yet, I'll go ahead and make a post about this

outphase.com has recently announced IIDX:TE3, the third in their line of IIDX:Tournament Edition BMS tournaments.

It's going to take place beginning September 6, 2008 (plenty of time to get entries made!), and continue until finished. There will be 3 different divisions (called 'beats'), each with a different theme.

beat 1 - beatmania IIDX RESPECT. This division is for BMS remixes of existing songs in the beatmania series (I/IIDX/III). An interesting limitation though: Entries must not contain more than five (5) samples from the original song.

beat 2 - VJ ARMY. This division is for making a background animation (BGA) for any song. The animation can be BMP images or an AVI movie. Only this BGA will be judged, not the song itself.

beat 3 - FREE FOR ALL. This division is the most similar to previous IIDX:TE tournaments, as any song can be entered (except for beatmania remixes).

For all divisions, both keysounded BMS and non-keysounded BMS will be accepted, with a small bonus in score given to keysounded songs.

Entry registration for IIDX:TE3 beat 1 will open on Sept. 6, 2008 and close on Sept. 20, 2008. Judging will begin on that day, and end when all entries are judged. At that point, beat 2 entry registration will open.

The official site (and complete info) is here: ttp://iidxte.outphase.com

I have 1 entry ready to go for each division... No idea how well they will score though

Edit: The previous IIDX:TE events (songs and scores) are archived and available for viewing/download here:

IIDX:TE1 - ttp://x-raise.cjb.net/bms_dl/iidx_te/ - recommended song: Spy In Black
IIDX:TE2 - ttp://x-raise.cjb.net/bms_dl/iidx_te_ii/ - recommended song: Snow Stream

Edit 2nd Mix: Although it says 'For the US', anyone in the world is welcome to enter, regardless of location.

I tried asking DXSynergy (the event organizer and creator) about splitting the 'Free-For-All' into 2 divisions (*KS and Non-KS), and he said he would think about it.

Although it's been a while, so I'll try asking him again.

There is a slight score penalty for entering a non-keysounded BMS, but it's not enough I think.

I'll update this post with any info I get.

[Edit] And of course I can't wait to try your entry, if you choose to enter

I'd love to enter, to be honest, as I've made a remix of a song from BMIIDX, but since I said I'd be a judge... I might step down so I can compete.

The only thing is IDK honestly how to keysound my song hahah :<

Feel free to enter a song if you want... After all, I'm entering 3 BMS (and I'm one of the judges!)

Judges can't officially rate their own entries, but other judges (as well as the public review) can. The final scores for those will just be an average of the other scores.

Trying to make it fair for all, as well as letting the judges enter songs if they want

[Edit] You're still welcome to judge, but if you don't want to, that's okay.

I have keysounded a song of mine. Guess I'll enter it.

Oh, I'm still wanting to judge.

Just the keysounding part is going to be a fucking pain in the arse.

Oh well, just gives me more reason for me to rework the song.

The reason that I did not split the KS and non-KS division is this: Some people can make good songs, but lack the knowledge to make a BMS that is as good as the song they made. Some people can make awesome BMSs, but the songs that they make are lacking. I put both in the same category with a bonus to KS'd files to retain a sense of competition. An awesome non-KS'd file still has a fighting chance against a KS'd one. And for a good non-KS'd entry to win over a mediocre KS'd one would be that much more rewarding.

Actually, given the choice, I'd rather play the 'mediocre' keysounded BMS, because I can relate to the large amount of effort that go into them.

Playing a BMS without keysounds just isn't as fun. It gives a 'why bother pressing the keys' feeling.

They're totally different experiences, like the 'pad' and 'keyboard' stepfiles.

Why wasn't beat 3 mentioned?

Hmm I'll see if I can make a keysounded one. I found a really easy way to split sounds in FL Studio so I don't have to manually cut each one up. I'm sure there are other programs that can do it too. You just use a beat slicing program where you can set markers in the sounde and then have it batch export each marker point as its own wav file.... oh...

Do the sounds HAVE to be named to things like A01 A02 or something or do they get auto named like that in the BMS Creator program?

Quote:
If the entry is keysounded and uses an MP3 background track, then that MP3 must be rendered at 160Kbps.
Does this mean the rest of the keysounds have to be MP3 160 KB/s?

Dreamcube017:
The sound files can be named whatever you want, although you can choose to rename them to that style if you want.

Arctures:
I think that just applies to the long BG music files. I think everything else can be in whatever format you want to use.

Yes. The best and most accurate (when in the BMS) way to do they keysounds is to render all of your synth and percussion effects (reverb, delay, and such by themselves) and background noise into an MP3. Then, render the notes with no effects in a WAV and cut those up.

And as far as KS vs non-KS goes, there's nothing that prevents us from splitting the two categories after the judging. If there a a ton of entries in both categories, I'll definitely consider it; if a few in one or the other, then probably not, especially if they're all good.

I'm pushing for people to make KS'd files.

I promise that I'm making this as fair as possible.
