I recommend BMSE for editing and uBMplay for viewing. Click and scroll down to the download links on each page (Just prefix each link with an 'h', I'm trying to show the links. I hate bemanistyle's auto-link-replace feature)
ttp://ucn.tokonats.net/software/bmse/
ttp://ucn.tokonats.net/software/ubmplay/
Choose to install both programs to the same folder (Saves time).
Apologies if you already know about how to use BMSE, but just in case, here's a basic how-to.
If you're going to make a non-keysounded BMS (easier to make at first), just get an mp3 of your choice, find its tempo, and assign it to the WAV list (Double-Click on #WAV02 or higher)
Then click on the 'pencil' icon, and place a note anywhere in column 'B01' (Background sound). That location will start the BG music.
Click on #WAV01 in the list, and now you're ready to place notes everywhere. Click the green > (play) button to view how it is so far.
BMS creation gets much more in-depth, more than I could ever explain in a single post.
And if you make a BMS, I want to try it

So, I got all that stuff started to make my own bms and when I tried to preview it, there was no sound. So, I figured that maybe it's just the program, so I loaded the bms with the mp3 in the correct directory and it didn't even show up on my list. I'm sure that I must be missing something, but if any of you can help, that would be great.
EDIT: Well, I got it working with the sound now, but it seems to be playing two song files. Everything on BMSE is fine, there's only one .mp3 on it. But is there a way that you can play sound on the BMSE viewers?

Use WAV#002 onwards for the keys.

All assigned sound and image files need to be in the same folder as the saved BMS file.

But is there a way that you can play sound on the BMSE viewers? | Sorry about the bump, but I really need to know how you got the sound working. I've been trying everything, I meticulously compared working .bms files with mine and found no striking difference, but still the background music in them is audible whereas in mine it's not. Not even if I create a new .bms file and load the music from one of the working .bms songs. Or if I take one of the working .bms files and load my .mp3 or .wav in there, nothing. There must be something wrong with my editor is what I'm assuming, but I can't get my head around what that might be. I've tried the BMx Sequence Editor, versions 1.33 and 1.38, same problem in both.
This is the third time I'm asking for a little help in this forum, and while I haven't gotten any so far, I'm really hoping this time there's someone out there who could provide a little assistance, that'd be most appreciated.
Thank you. | |

What program or simulator are you using to play your BMS song?
If BMSE+uBMplay, it's helpful to save a newly-created BMS at least once before playing, so a BMS viewer program can access it.
Also not all viewers and simulators support the same array of audio formats. The best bet is to use uncompressed WAV format audio at first.

It is indeed BMSE and uBMplay. I have saved my .bms files countless times, nothing. I have also tried several different .mp3 and .wav files, or converting .mp3 to .wav and back, to no avail. It just won't play back anything I load, be it music from .bms files that I downloaded and that work when I fire them up in BMSE, or be it anything at all I've got on my hard drive. I downloaded BMSE off the official site (the pink Japanese one), so I would assume that I don't have some glitchy bogus version.
On a sidenote: If I load the .bms files I created in Synth'N, I don't get any sound there either. Again, .bms files I downloaded work like a charm.
Is there another editor out there that I can try out, or is BMSE really the only option I've got? Kind of frustrating, considering nobody else ever seemed to have such weird issues with it. :|
Edit: If I single-click on any file present in the #WAV list or on a note I've placed on the rack, I do hear the sound it represents. But that's all I ever get to hear from the program.

It's here, the very first link on this page (it leads to another page, asking to use it for legal purposes only, click the left link to start the DL) ttp://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~nm4j-tyn/gdac2/
Does your BMS play in any other BMS player, such as Lunatic Rave, Be-Pachi Musc or nazoBMplay?
Also if it's okay, could I try your BMS song? I'm interested in seeing why it's not loading.

The other .bms players you mentioned don't ring a bell to me though, uBMplay is the only one I could find through googling.
I thoroughly appreciate your help, I'll report back on Friday or Saturday.
