1. Download and install Japanese Fonts to your fonts directory.

2. Change your computer's regional settings to Japanese. (Start --> Control Panel --> Regional and Language Settings --> Set the standards to Japanese, and set the language for non-unicode programs to Japanese.

3. Download and install Lunatic Rave and the update.

4. Put your BMS files in the _Songs folder

5. Open config.exe in the Lunatic Rave folder, go to jukebox and click Reload All. It will fire up the program to load the songs to cache then close.

6. Your songs are now loaded, click on LunaticRave.exe and you'll be up and going.

For some reason, that doesn't seem to work for everyone.

Use AppLocale, by Microsoft. It allows you to run a program with Japanese settings, without altering your Locale. There is also a .reg for right-click startup of AppLocale floating around.

In addition to these steps, download and install AppLocale http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/tools/apploc.mspx
Add the localejaptoexecontext registry key found here http://alcahest.club.fr/perso/apploc...execontext.zip
Right click config.exe and select "Locale Japanese" to run it if it didn't work previously.
Right click LunaticRave.exe and do the same. You will also have an option to create a shortcut so you don't always have to right click. Sometimes the shortcut didn't work for me though. If it still doesn't work try fiddling with some stuff in the Skin tab under config. It took me a while to get the program to run consistently but it was well worth the effort. Now if it only supported videos...

Different windows partitions is too much trouble for an emulator, IMO.

Setting both the Standards and non-Uni locales in the Regional Settings worked for me.

The real kicker, however, is that you NEED those Japanese Fonts. LR refuses to work without them, even if you try to force a font through its menus. It'll die without an error message after the opening video.

Now, if you developed a program which made interrupts to the calls for the fonts you don't have, a la DJMaxFont, then maybe you could get around it. But it probably wouldn't look pretty.

Why the settings/fonts method doesn't work for everyone is beyond me. Of course, I haven't encountered that problem, so I can't figure it out. Try clearing out the jukebox cache, then doing a full reextract of the latest LR and any patches listed with it. Aside from that, I really don't know what you can do, except make sure that all your drivers are up to date.

Let's see...
  • Japanese fonts (CHECK).
  • AppLocale and Locale Japanese used (CHECK).
  • Song in _songs folder (CHECK).
And still it doesn't work. I get this strange "Himawari" error message every time I try to boot up the config, even with the locale.

Here is said "himawari" error.

That's exactly the problem I'm having with LR... from the sound of it it sounds like it smokes my current sim of choice, bemaniadx... but I can't get it to run either.
