I recommend Camtasia (select a portion of the screen to record), or...

Set FRAPS to record half-size and at a reduced frame rate.

FRAPS is better than all other software-based capture programs, I think.

For Camtasia:
Win2K/XP, 1.0+ GHz CPU, 256+ MB RAM

For FRAPS, I'd imagine the requirements to be a little lower, due to the ability to record at half-size.

You're welcome

One thing though... FRAPS creates uncompressed AVI files, so the file size of a completed video will be huge! (Me recommends Virtual Dub/TMPGEnc to compress)

Camtasia on the other hand, can create an already-compressed AVI.

I have tried recording with Fraps several times but it ended up in a bad way. I recorded half the size and recorded the file to another harddrive than what the game or my windows partition use, and still it isn't good. I also have a, in my opinion, killer komputer:

AMD Athlon 64 4400+
2048MB Corsair RAM
Ati Radeon X1900XTX

and I am like, WTF? Give me FPS when I play. But fraps keep on giving me low FPS when I play. It is unplayable in my opinion, because I want it to look like when I don't record. Smooth and so on.

I tried a program called Hypercam 2. The program itself looks kinda B, but when recording, it doesn't give any lag at all, though the video itself may become a little choppy.

I have given up on any sort of recording at the moment. The best way maybe is to record with something good outside the screen.

My computer:

2.0 GHz Celeron
512 MB RAM
No real video card

It works fine for me

For best results, I recommend closing all other un-necessary programs before making videos.

For me Fraps always spills out two files at the end of recording.
The first is long, but the last 5 to 20 seconds are missing.
The second one contains these last seconds.
How does that make any sence/can be worked around?

What System Files do you use? I mean if you use FAT32, the limit file size is 4GigaBytes. So probably that your result record file is greater than this limit, thus fraps spills out in two files.... Because I'm not sure there is an option in fraps to cut files like this.

It's automatic, probably a software-based limitation.

Try using something like VirtualDub to join the files together.

Unfortunately Fraps makes an audio fadeout at the end of the file. Might be quite challenging to merge two files perfectly together for a video editing newbie like I am. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit, fortunately with a 64 Bit DuoCore CPU. I'm going to change to XP 64 Bit as soon as I get new hard drive.
