Default Saving space with BMS files...

Some of you might already know this, and some sims might not support it, but I know that LR and Endless Music (from LR) can use it. Turn all the .wav files in the BMS to .ogg files. It'll make it about 10 MB smaller than it use to be. This is useful when you run out of space. Again, you guys might already know this, but I was just looking at the BMS'es in Endless Music and figured I'd try turning all my BMS files into ogg and it works. Just make sure it doesn't normalize the volume because if it does, the keysounds are gonna be way louder.

yes, you're right
I only want to say that rythm it doesn't support .ogg files

I don't knows if it's possible to add the decoder, but with the default settings, rythm it doesn't support it

Yeah. I don't know how to do it, but I sure would add it if I knew how and if I could get them to read .mp3 files then an entire BMS file could be about 6 Mb. That'd be totally awesome.

There are some artists that will have different quality files per song like yamajet or -45. Some of these songs are already in ogg form, so the hasle to convert them is just a download away.

No problem. The only issue is that with the converter I use, the files all get normalized and the keysounds are WAY louder than the BGM.

My best advice for making compact key sounded files is download the CD quality (High Quality) files first. If you have XP Media Center Edition, that's great because it has a WAV to MP3 converter and you can control the sound quality of the files. Audacity will come in handy in converter MP3 files to OGG files and editing some of the sounds files to control more of the volume, sound effects, etc.

Of course, you don't need to follow my directions, but they will do the job for some of us.

I have PowerAmp Audio converter and it is pretty good, the only issue is the normalzing. I wish I could tell it not to do that.

How do you tell it not to do it?

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out.

As I said, I'm not sure how to get other sims to read the .ogg format or the .mp3 format, but if you could get them to read it, then that would make BMS files much more compact. I have mine's compressed to ogg medium quality and it still sounds prett good.

Only Lunatic-Rave and Be-Pachi Music support OGG files. Everything else needs to be in WAV. Sadly nearly every other sim that people use is old and has stopped development.

Well like I said with the simfiles, you can just convert the .wav files to .ogg files. I made a 18 MB BMS file 5 MB and it still sounds really good.

Another sim call nanasigroove (ナナシグルーヴ in Japaese) supports OGG files, too. You can get it here:
A.S.D.F. -Aho Software Developer's Force-
It can read MP3 files as well as rhythm-it! does, but hard to handle for it's fully in Japanese characters.

Ah yeah, I forgot about that sim. Guess it never really got any mainstream support here.

A sim that can read mp3s is great. Then I could make them even SMALLER although oggs and MP3s are about the same size.

I think I'm going to stick with Endless Music though as it looks cool and works just fine for the most part.
