Most of the beatmania simulators are for Windows. There's none for Linux (yet).

You could try using WINE to emulate the Windows BM sims, however.

Serious question: If you don't know how to install anything for linux, why use it?

He probably knew how on a different version of Linux and recently switched to Ubuntu.

BTW, find programs using Synaptic Package manager (in the administration tab).

From my experience, simulation on Linux isn't that great, I'd suggest running WINE (or swiching onto Windows period), otherwise, WINE is going to be the best way to run a simulator that looks nice and plays well

Thats true I've been using Ubuntu for the last year or so and Linux for the last 6 years. I think Ill do something about this problem. Theres Stepmania for Linux, but no beatmania simulators. Anyone know of one that has source so I can port and possibly improve-OpenGL & OpenAL. Most simulators look like they run in dos. Anyways Ubuntu is a fast growing OS and I think a BM sim for it would be great.

Edit:
One more thing if your new to Ubuntu and need a walk through to get it working through wine or winex(cedega) let me know.

I could always clean up and upload a copy of the Be-Pachi Music source, if needed.

Although it's made with Delphi 7, so a port to the multi-platform FreePascal or something similar might be necessary.

I also have the source to SSR MAX, but it's missing a key file (prevents compilation), and I'm not sure how easy/difficult it would be to re-create that file.

btw... DOS is awesome. A DOS-style appearance is much preferred over a horrible frame rate.

Maybe I should start a new thread, but are your computers getting more then 60 fps with Stepmania. The reason I ask is because, if I were to write a new BM simulator I would want it using OpenGL, just like Stepmania. In fact I would used a lot of the same methods they use, Stepmania is extremely resource intensive for what it dose, its the laws of nature. So as for me Yes I get over 60 FPS more like 450 FPS.

For me it really depends on the version.

Seems like the earlier versions (from 2 years ago and back) ran faster than newer versions.

None of the later 3.x versions ran at 60 FPS for me, although I haven't tried the latest ones in a while (Due to my lack of interest in DDR simulation)

cedega handles the emulators a little better than that.
