For the longest time the only Bemani game I have ever gone anywhere near is DDR, but I kinda want to broaden my horizens and try something new.
I have always heard about how much fun Beatmania is from all of my friends, though I've never actually encountered an arcade version before.
So, I've decided I'd really like to get into beatmania and I've decided to look into buying the US console version, but I've never played before! Ever!
So my question to any one who feels like answering is:
Is the US console Beatmania very Beginner friendly???
Any help, and info is GREATLY appreciated!!!
Thanks

Hell doesn't the maximum number of stars on normal hit like 5 or 6?
I learned very fast from the US version.

That's why they left out a lot of the good songs that could've made the game's soundtrack more appealing. Because the charts for some of the really good stuff can be quite unforgiving.
It's a good starter game, I'll give it that. However, if you are already an avid, experienced IIDX player, you won't get too much excitement out of this game unless your PS2 is not modded to play the JP games. Even so, it was still worth buying for the controller alone, if not for the game, in my opinion.
And it does go higher than 7 and 8. Play through all the songs in 5-key (beatmania) and 7-key (IIDX) modes once and you will unlock the Another difficulty rating for all the songs that have it. (actually, this is the only unlock you will need to do for this IIDX game)

Manmachine Plays Jazz (an 8 in BM Final... should be a 9!)
321 Stars (Maybe a relatively easy 9, for those who can stage-clear 9's... not me!)
Genom Screams (an 8)
Ska A Go Go (a 7) isn't too difficult, actually. Play it a certain way!
So in a way, 5-key did get some version of anothers.

Heck, it's the reason I got back into playing beatmania again after a long hiatus. There's also good variety of songs (for beginners, if you have all the Japanese styles then I wouldn't recommend this, unless you want a cheap controller or... really, really, really want to listen to the US console releases) to keep you playing.
Normal Single goes up to 6 stars of 10, courtesy of Colors (radio edit)
Normal Double goes up to 8 stars, courtesy of Summer Vacation methinks.
But if Normal difficulty is too hard you can always start out on Beginner, where songs go up to 3.
On the other end of the spectrum, on Another Single you have V, Colors (radio edit), and Nemesis (not sure about the 3rd one) as 10 stars.
On Another Doubles I believe era among a couple of others also have 10. I'm at the beginner end on double play.
Back on topic. I wouldn't say it's very beginner friendly. IIDX, unlike DDR takes a lot of dedication to get good at. You don't start spewing out AAs or AAAs if you're a real beginner with or without previous bemani experience. Took me a couple of tries on 5.1.1 [H7] before I finally AAA'd it. (And that would be a true AAA, not the BMUS "AAA")
