Some of you have probably discovered that the Microsoft or XBCD or XBCD360 drivers do not necessarily configure your Guitar Hero III X-Plorer (for PC/Mac/360) controller to work with DTXMania. The frets may be responsive, but the pick is not.
The following is an assembly I have made using JoyToKey to remap the X-Plorer keys to keyboard keys, thereby sending to DTXMania a keyboard stroke and mimicing a strum.
Instructions:
1. Download and unpack the attached GH_Controller_DTXMania.rar and unzip to any destination.
2. Log into DTXMania and configure the GuitarFreaks keys to:
R - 2 (not numpad)
G - 3
B - 4
Wailing - W
Pick - [
Decide - Enter
3.Close DTXMania
4. Assuming your controller is plugged in, run JoyToKey.exe and leave open. Reopen DTXMania.
5. Your X-Plorer strum and frets should now work. Green will respond to R, Red to G, Yellow to B. If you find the wail is not as responsive as the GF ASC controller, it is because the wail will only work if you tilt the controller from a horizontal position initially (as opposed to a 45 degree angle initially in the arcades).
Have fun!
Notes: I have not tested this with any other controllers (PS2, Xbox or otherwise). You'll need a USB converter for those, and as long as the controller is detected by the computer, it should theoretically work just as well.
