Unhappy MIDI file problem in DTXmania

Hey guys I was playing some midi files in DTXmania and although they contain a drumbeat (when played in WMP), the beat would not play in DTXmania.
The horizontal lines that should be scrolling downwards did not exist, and thus the whole time it was a drum-less song with no beats to play.
This happens for some MIDI files but not for others.
Can any body help here?

And also, I hav a huge collection of MIDI files that are synched to the same tempo, etc. to their MP3 counterparts
Would it be possible to use the drumbeats from those MIDI files to make a DTX or GDA using the MP3 song, but with the beats from the MIDI?

Thanks a lot

I think I can help with some of this. You need smf2midi. It may be in your GDA Creator folder. If not, get it here:

Index of /files/programs

It will convert your midi to a DTX file. Load it up in DTX Creator and assign drum sounds in the right side column according to the numbers on the notes (29, 2A, etc). Then click on the right side column in any empty box and browse to your song file (may need to be in wav). Then do "Edit Note Mode" and insert a chip under the "SE1" column, as indicated here:

(yay for Warpig, helper of people)

I just made my first 2 DTXs. The trick to making sure it's not off time is to hit the drop-down at the top left, and change the chart to 64th notes. That gives you much much finer control over the timing. You can switch it back and forth as you please. You can slide whole groups of notes, or just grab the song and slide it around so it's perfectly in time.

Edit: I don't think you need it, but if you wanna add the bpm, use the 2nd bpm box, and download this free program:
MixMeister Free Stuff :: BPM Analyzer

Drag your wav/mp3 into the box and it will tell you the exact BPM. GDA Creator accepts decimal points, btw.

By the first step you indicated, maybe you already know all of this, but it never hurts to have the info out there in as many places as possible. Now if I could just get somebody to help me with my avi problem...

OK after spending 10 hours today trying to figure it out, I finally did it!
The reason some MIDI files dont work in DTXMANIA is because there is a drumbeat in the first unit of time eg. 1/16th second (there's a musical term for it but I dunno )
So all you gotta do is delete the first drumbeat and replace it with a "rest" in anvil studio or a similar program

I guess this doesnt really help anyone besides me cos I think i'm the only DTXmania player with tons of midi files

Actually, that's useful information. It's always good to know what can go wrong. I'll have to add it to my list. You never know how many people out there are making DTX files from death metal midis! Ok, probably not many....

I joined this site just to say thanks to those in this thread, particularly Vietpanda who solved a problem I also spent 10 hours (AT LEAST) trying to solve. I, too, was having intermittent results with midi files playing in DTXMANIA. I was able to solve it with that recommendation that I remove the notes that appear immediately at the beginning of the file. Once again life has meaning.
