DMX Simulator? Anyone interested?

Ok, so I have found a PPP controller for not too much, and I was wondering if it would be possible to develop a DMX simulator off of the Stepmania platform.... I mean they have many themes and such that make it possible to run things like IIDX and PPP and that got me thinking. IIDX has the smaller notes and thinner, filled background for the notes, and PPP utilized the infared sensors....

So im wanting to make the DMX simulator come to life. And make all the DMX players like me very happy that we can now play without spending mass amounts of money on it... aside from the ParaPara controller.

Who's interested in helping this become a reality?

Stepmania's the only program that can read the PPP controller.

Yeah, I should of said that I was wanting to use stepmania to do this and create theme or something of that sort to work with the para controller to make such a thing.

there's already native (i.e. own gametype) dance maniax support in SM.

Well... umm... I guess that answers most everything I had to ask. All his version needs is some polishing up to make it like the DMX feel... well the menu may have to be Dance Freaks, cause DMX has a completly different menu system.

It's not exactly to the arcade version, and still needs work, but whenever I can get ahold of CS2, I will decicate a day to polish this up.

Still dont have a Para controller, so I cannot build a controller, but I may try to build a custom circuit and make my own controller... I think that will be cheaper than shelling out $80+ for the controller on ebay.

But if you want to play this, the default keys are z,a,x,s for bottom left, upper left, bottom right, and upper right respectively.

Edit: Does anyone know anything about building an infared motion sensor? I think it would be easier making one and converting a ps2 gamepad and building the circuit for the sensor. But for all I know the sensors may need special stuff to recgonize when something is there or not..

hey ive been playin around with that noteskin thing too i posted a pic up in the "dance maniax/freaks sims?" thread on the last page. its more of a dmx 2nd noteskins. except the receptors are only pink and the lanes aren't transparent. and they have the same noteskin. lol it was being a spaz and i needed to edit files in the common directory. trouble all it is. but turned out alright in the end. i hope you fix it up better than what i did. just make sure to change the note flashes *vomits* :P

I made a noteskin as well since I couldn't get RedXXX's to work, it's uses the GFX from PyDance. It looks pretty decent, I think, but it really needs a theme to go with it.

Put it in the "NoteSkins\Dance". Works w/Stepmania 4.0 only.

To make a DMX theme one would need direct-feed videos and screencaps of DMX, and to my knowledge there are none. So unless someone has an actual cabinet and can output it to a monitor and record some vids, a full theme will likely never happen.

Did you put it under the Stepmania CVS/noteskins/dance folder? It works perfectly for me. But now I think I have a good idea on polishing up the noteskin I have.
