Now that stepmania 4.0 supports the para para controller, we can finally have some real simulation of both ez2dancer and para!
i use linux, and the way i got it to work was downloading the cvs source, and the cvs repository also includes a bunch of game types and (old) themes that currently don't work in sm 4.0, notably beatmania and popn. On a side note, I was looking at the source to the BMS file loader, and it looks like they've got everything in place for keysound support already, but it could easily be missing something.
Anyway, this tells you how to get the cvs source and stuff, for windows and mac too.
http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/Anonymous_CVS_Access
what it doesn't tell you for linux for mac, if you're a complete newb, is you go into the stepmania directory and do the following commands ./autogen.sh; ./configure; make
then for linux (maybe for mac too) you then cp src/GtkModule.so .; cp src/stepmania .
then you run stepmania by ./stepmania and you'll see in games type selection there are a bunch of different modes. technomotion, beat, and popn modes don't work for now though. when switching to para and ez2dancer modes for the first time, the key configs were all screwed up for me, but changing one key in the key config menu magically brought a good default config back for some reason.
if you have para para or ez2dancer simfiles, then play away!
if not, make sure autogen steps in other options is turned on.
i've never played on an ez2dancer machine so i can't compare the range of sensitivity of the hand sensors to my poor substitution of para sensors. but the idea is the same, and lots of fun.
Hopefully the simfile community will catch up with the stepmania devs soon.
once i figure out how to wrangle my para sensors in an arcadeish setup for ez2dancer, i'll post pics.... or maybe just make mspaint diagrams because my webcam sucks
