Frets on Fire can use Freetar Hero songs I believe...I'm currently using Frets on Fire and I like it. The community seems pretty robust and the game works fine for me - it can even import Guitar Hero songs from the DVD (though it takes FOREVER) which is nice...

I recommend trying that. Upcoming updates to the program should really improve it (background, graphical fixes, etc.)
