Besides its the only program I could get to detect the PIU pad, KIU didnt want
to recognize it and DM... well, I just didnt like the interface, and when I wanted
to verify if it worked, It just didnt want to run, so I go with stepmania. |
Make sure to get DM 0.5 from here:
http://zsoo.net/wiki/wiki.php/DirectMove in section 1.3.1
That's guaranteed to work at least.
Anyway, the problem is not whether it WORKS in SM, the problem is:
1) it does not simulate PIU holds properly
2) the size of the notes is not quite right
3) the spacing between rising notes is also wonky which leads to problems reading occasionally
4) machine scoring is not proper PIU scoring
5) SM does NOT support stepcharts for the same song with different BPMs; this is supported by KIU, DM, and the actual PIU game. For instance, in SM, you cannot play a song which has a BPM slowdown in Crazy mode and stays constant in Hard Mode, due to limitations of the current SM format (being worked on). So Zero stepcharts need special accomodations when placed in song folder (Phantom HD and Phantom CZ must be separate songs).
SM is great for DDR but in its current state is inadequate for the "real" PIU game... DM and KIU are far closer to the real game, and technically, you can actually use the actual PIU PC game for custom stepcharts/songs, but I'm not at liberty to say how to do so or how to get info.
I use DM a lot more nowadays, since KIU is poor at handling BPM changes, but SM has an "Edit" mode which can be helpful for seeing a stepchart at leisure, which is a plus. Of course, you can also do this without SM using KSFCreator...
I am always willing to help people get DM to work, since the program is in Korean and may be confusing at first.
