Default DDR Encore Elimination Style Stepmania Simfile Contest

Official Rules and Regulations

Tentative Timeline:

Based off 16/32/64 file bracket

November 24th - Tournament Registration begins (READ THE RULES, FOR CHRISTS SAKE)
January 1st - Registration Opens for Round 1
January 8th - Files due - Round 1
January 10th - Round One released, Public Vote starts
January 15th - Round One results released, Song Registration for Round Two Opens
January 22nd - Files due - Round Two
January 24th - Christmas Break, have fun with your family!!!!!
January 29th - Round Two released, Public Vote starts
Febuary 3rd - Round Two results released, Song Registration for Round Three Opens

The rest of the schedule will take place on a tentative basis based on the number of entries until 4 files are left. One final category and round will decide the winner!

Basic Rules:
There are several rules that apply to this competition, and failure to comply WILL immediately result in disqualification of your file, and possibly banishment from future competitions.
The following rules are placed with loving care.

1:
Do NOT talk about the DDR Encore Elimination Style Stepmania Simfile Contest.

Seriously though,

1:
All files submitted must have the following files included:
- MP3 (more than 1:15 but no longer than 2:30 in length, in other words NO LONG VERSIONS)
- .SM file Please avoid include unecessary files like the .dwi file and the .old files
- Readme (including all information you'd like to disclose about your file)
Graphics are voluntary, as I will provide graphics for every file before release in classic DDR Universe style, as seen here using a couple DDR Encore files:

No background images will be provided, as they have a tendency to distract from the stepchart itself. If you include images other than a personal CD-Title, they will be removed from the file prior to the competition.

2:
All files will need to have the following difficulties included:
- Singles Beginner
- Singles Light
- Singles Standard
- Singles Heavy
All additional difficulties will NOT be required, but you never know, they may just poke some extra favor as effort from your peers.

3:
This is not a keyboard competition. All files MUST be strictly DDR style. No Mines, no Hands, no extended 32th drills. Boss songs are accepted, but most songs do not offer enough to justify that 10 foot rating. Gimmicks are fine if they fit the song, so no changing the BPM for absolutely no reason, or placing stops everywhere while the song/bass continues going. That just gets obnoxious and annoying SUPER fast, no matter how creative it is.

4:
If you enter the competition, you will need to be available to provide fair and impartial feedback for all other files entered. When rating other files, be as specific about what you do and do not like about their file. Just saying "LOL 1/10" will not be accepted. If they put a crossover in a very appropriate location, tell us. If there is a 16th drill that came out of nowhere on the beginner chart, tell us. Being specific is a major plus, and we'll be looking out for it.

5:
Songchoice will be decided by way of category. Before registration, I will provide a category. All entrants will need to choose a song from that category/musical genre, and register a file through me. I will keep a list for each round with me. You can change your file as many times as you want, but you must be able to finish the file in the week provided.
The category will never be obscure, nor will it have so few available songs that choosing a file will be difficult. No files may be registered by more than one entrant. Also you cannot pick a song that already appears on any official Dance Dance Revolution game or that appears on this site. Picking a song that appears from another step file contest, step file website, or a dance video game other than Dance Dance Revolution is acceptible as long as you make the steps for all charts uniquely your own. If any chart appears identical to a simfile that already exists out there somewhere your entry will be rejected and/or disqualified.

6:
All files will be placed on the DDR Encore Stepmania Cabinet for play on feet. This machine will be available at Mr. Biggs FFC in Colorado Springs. If you do not want your file placed on the machine, please let us know ahead of time. We'll make sure to keep it off there for you.

As of this post, Registration is available through the DDR Encore forums, via the "DDR Encore Elimination Style Stepmania Simfile Contest" Subforum. Please register in the forums and introduce yourself. The competition will begin as of January 1st, as seen in the beginning timeline stated above. If we reach a number of entrants other than 16, 32, or 64 in thefirst round, I will be providing a qualifying category, which the following DDR Encore members will judge, and choose the best files to go into the competition itself that will bring it to to any of those round numbers. So, simply, this competition will have either 16, 32, or 64 entrants.
- Spork!
- Razma
- Chaoz

You will know you have been registered into the contest when your rank graphic in your user account has been changed to this:
. This will remain as your graphic until the contest has ended.

Please ask any questions that you are unsure of HERE, and we will answer as effectively as possible, as fast as possible.

tl:dr
Each file entered will be placed in a tournament bracket, like in an actual DDR Tournament. Each matchup will be given a thread for comments and votes. If you "beat" your opponent, you go to the next round and have a week to make the next file for the next category.
DDR Style simfiles.

I'd register but...that's a little bit of early notice. The only problem for me is that I'm going to be up in IL on vacation from November the 26th to December the 7th. So that doesn't give me a lot of time...

If there was better notice...I'dve made something but...

Due to lack of entrants, the competition may be postponed until January.

You haven't updated the main DDREncore page with the compo info. The only way to know about the compo on the site is by looking on the forums, which I only saw by chance. Maybe ask for a BMS front page article like Best-Mix #2 had.

So, got off the phone with Spork just now...

Seems we're delaying this simfile contest for a month. As was posted earlier, this was very short notice and we want to get as many people in as we can. Also, this way we can try to scrounge up some prizes.

Fine by me.

At least this will make it easier to do when there aren't any holidays to worry about.

The qualifying round has begun, with registration still open if you would like to join in still.
