A lot of places are like this and they like to bias up a file for having a video. I should know...I've experimented with sites like this in that same fashion. If you don't meet their expectations for that, you are LOZZZRRRR. Doesn't matter about actual stepping content. Just that there's eye candy.
Conversely, though, it does show laziness if you can't get a simple graphic up. Even if it has nothing to do with the actual song. As long as it's some flashy rip with the text of the song's name, you're probably fine. BPM also if you're doing PIU.

When I stepped my first KB song, Border of Life, they went all "omg the song name in the BG is too low therefore your file is crap lol!". Seriously, I didn't give a shit about it graphics.

Not dissing you personally but that place has a high idiot ratio. I really tried when I was over there a few years back and then I quickly found out why people tend not to hang around there.

I made a whole bunch of filler graphics literally 2 seconds ago, they're shiny but they all look the same; I'd do more work right now but my mom's gonna wanna do college shit and I don't wanna do college shit :-(
I was going to do courses for this pack but I don't think anyone really cares lol

Plus, they look nice (sometimes).
No graphics for a file means not much experience in a lot of cases too, but not necessarily all. The only other thing that would influence someone into downloading your simfile/pack would be a familiar username or awesome song choice(s), which in a case where the song isn't too familiar or over-played or bland or whatever reason you wouldn't want to listen to that type of song, having no graphics to show at least a hint of experience along with an unfamiliar name wouldn't be very helpful.

The only problem is that in order to get their respect you either have to act as stupid as they do or make a consecutive string of simfiles that they agree with. Most likely keyboard files. Pad files are not cool unless they're at least 11 feet in difficulty.
I think it's gotten worse since I started hanging around there 3 years ago. A lot of awesome members have vanished. (for good reason?) I probably only fit in now because of a few people I met a couple years ago who are now highly respected. I haven't rose up the ladder much.
FFR isn't as bad as ODI though. Ugh, I stopped trying to fit in there after three days.
On topic: I can crank out generic graphics in no time flat. Give me a list of songs that still need graphics and I'll do a bunch Thursday/Friday. I'm in a Photoshop kind of mood this week.

I still lol how stargroup is as retarded as he was when he was banned from MotK for trolling on a Touhou game :V
