Post Keyboard Hero I

ffreak12323 is back! I have gotten way better at stepping simfiles, and I PROMISE you that this pack will be a good one. Well anyways, let's get to the subject.

As the days have passed since my 1st retirement in bemanistyle.com, I have been focusing on stepping simfiles, and maybe even making another pack. A real pack! So as I was thinking, I thought that it would be fun to make a KEYBOARD HERO 1 for PIU on Stepmania 3.9! I made Beat It by Michael Jackson and I stepped it, checked it, tested it, and fixed it up, and it turned out to be a good stepfile for KEYBOARD HERO. I'll tell you all about it:

This is going to be a pack similar to Guitar Hero, but you use either a Guitar Hero Controller, a Keyboard, or a Rock Band Guitar Controller to play it, and only on PIU. It is going to contain of rock, metal, emo, country, etc. songs. There are some specific things that you need to know about this pack. These things are listed below:

Requirements:

If you are going to request a song, it has to follow the requirements listed below, so like I always say, READ before you DO!

First of all, you need to know what kind of songs you are going to be allowed to request. I will not accept any song that does not have a guitar player in it. This pack has songs stepped to a guitar, not a keyboard or a cowbell or drums (the cowbell would be pretty stupid). Some examples of songs I will not take are L.E.F, Fascination MAXX, Other Side (Radio Remix), etc. I will only take songs from the following genres:

Rock
Any Kind of Metal
Emo
Classic Rock
Country
Alternative
Gospel
Love Songs (Too Little, Too Late, etc.)
Soundtracks
If you want to request another genre that is similar to the following, please do so.

Second of all, you do not have to fret the songs. You can, but you do not have to. If YOU fret the song, it will have to follow the requirements below.

Editing the Charts:

Make sure the BPM is correct. Before you think about fretting or doing a simfile, sync it to the drums. The drums are the metronome of band. After your done with the BPM check it. If it is only off by 2 beats, and you request it, that's fine. I can fix that. If it is off by way too much and does not change when it is supposed to, I can't fix that. That does not mean that if you find out the bpm is only 2.3 beats off, you can say, "well, ffreak12323 will fix this." At least try to get it as synced as possible. Maybe go over the whole song at x1.0 speed about 10 times with assist tick on.

Make sure the low notes are near the notes on the left and high notes are on the right. For example, on Guitar Hero, all the low notes are on Green, Red, and Yellow, and all the high notes are on Yellow, Blue, Orange.

Make sure that the notes match the guitar. This is a guitar chart, not a drum chart.

Slow the song down on parts where there are to many notes at once to tell whether it should be on the low notes or the high notes. Take your time on solos and slow the song down to 0.5x or below.

Make sure that the song makes sense. Slow the song down and go through the whole thing about 3 times at a slow speed and make sure that every note is synced. For example, if on fast motion, a solo sounded as if it were a stream of 16th notes, you might be wrong. Like on Operation Ground and Pound, on the solo, there is a part that sounded like it was a stream of 24th notes, but I slowed it down, and it was actually 32nd notes. Please take your time.

Make sure that each difficulty follows the requirements below:

Easy (Beginner): Only use Green, Red, and Yellow. Use chords rarely. Do not use fast strumming with 12th notes, 16th notes, 24th notes, 32nd notes, 48th notes, and 64th notes. (Acceptions: You can use fast strumming 12th notes under 85 bpm, you can use fast strumming 16th and 24th notes under 50 bpm, and 32nd, 48th, and 64th notes under 20 bpm.) On solos, do not go faster than streaming 8th notes. Fret this difficulty last.

Medium (Light): Only use Green, Red, Yellow, and Blue. Use 2-note chords in places where they are mostly needed. Do not use 3-note chords at all! Do not use streaming (fast strumming) with 12th notes, 16th notes, 24th notes, 32nd notes, 48th notes, and 64th notes. (Acceptions: You can use fast strumming 12th notes under 90 bpm, you can use fast strumming 16th and 24th notes under 60 bpm, and 32nd, 48th, and 64th notes under 30 bpm.) On solos, do not go faster than streaming 12th notes. Fret this difficulty 3rd.

Hard (Standard): Use all colors. Use chords where they are needed. Use no more than 10 3-note chords. Do not use fast strumming with 24th notes, 32nd notes, 48th notes, and 64th notes. (Acceptions: You can use fast strumming 24th notes under 70 bpm, and 32nd, 48th, and 64th under 45 bpm.) On solos, do not go faster than streaming 24th notes. You can have about 2 one-half measure streams of 32nd notes. Do not slow this down when editing. On this difficulty, you are only fretting what YOU hear on x1.0. Fret this difficulty second.

Expert (Heavy): Use all colors. Use any chord (except quads and quints) where it is needed. Use fast strumming with any note. Slow the song down and fret every single note. On solos, I don't know how to explain it, but I have a link at the bottom that might help. Fret this difficulty FIRST!

If you want to request a simfile, put it on the Simfile Database, and inform me so I can approve it.

Also, I cannot make this pack by myself. If you would like to help, don't hesitate to ask. Here are the jobs you can do for the pack:

President: Approves anything requested, updates the pack daily, edits the forum.

Vice President: Thinks of ideas for the pack, helps the President.

Noteskins: Helps make noteskins requested by the President and Vice President.

Frets On Fire

This is unneeded, and will likely be filled with power metal anyway

Hmm, now this is interesting...I'm up for this. I might consider making simfiles somewhere down the road; for now, a few things to consider:

1 - With the number of mods in Stepmania that can be edited, would it be possible to get the notes to appear to be scrolling as in the GH/RB games? Reverse would work fine, but it'd be nice to have a specific mod for these songs to get the experience going.

2 - Can I request songs already in the games? (Electric Eye <3) And on that note, what about multiple songs by the same artist?

3 - Either way, here's a quick list of songs I think should be in that aren't in GH (Yet; some of these could be in GH4...):

Eruption - Van Halen
Beat It - Micheal Jackson
Sanitarium - Metallica
For The Greater Good Of God - Iron Maiden
(If multiples allowed, Hallowed Be Thy Name - Iron Maiden)
Hollow Years - Dream Theater (If possible, the live version is better; but it's more likely to be hard to step because of the possible wavering off beat)
I Want Out - Sonata Arctica (Helloween Cover)
Basket Case - Green Day
Rainbow In The Dark - Dio

I've got more, but I'll post them later. ^.^

~Trexxen

[EDIT: Also, reading over your post again, I'd like to apply for Vice President - it seems like something I would be good at ^.^]

Trexxen, here are the answers to your questions:

1. I need to find a way to do that.
2. Yes, you can request songs already in the game, but just don't make it to where every song you want to request is already in Guitar Hero. 1-2 songs from Guitar Hero would be fine.
3. I think possibly Eruption would be a good one. I will try stepping it and see how it works out.

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE NOW VICE PRESIDENT

Thanks; I'll be sure to do my best ^.^

Few more things of note:

-I'm going to be doing a simfile (POSSIBLY) for Icky Thump by The White Stripes; I'll go ahead and make some keyboard hero notes for it as well for you to look over.

-I'll be including regular, 4-arrow charts for any songs I submit as well; part because one of my friends who tests my files doesn't have a GH/RB controller, and part because it gives me a good feel for the timing before I go into pitch. Should others be encouraged to do this? =P

-What is the poll for? Will only one of those songs make it? They're all good =P (But my vote will probably go to Other; specifically Wolf and Raven by Sonata Arctica.)

-A few more song suggestions, besides Icky Thump of course (A few of these are from my friends):

Under The Influence - Rusty Cooley
Surfing With The Alien - Joe Satriani
Concerto - Cacophony
For The Love Of God - Steve Vai
Evil Eye - Yngwie Malmsteen
No Boundaries - Micheal Angelo Batio
Digital Love - Daft Punk
Land Of Confusion - Disturbed
Plug In Baby - Muse
Man In The Box - Alice In Chains
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne
Soothsayer - Buckethead (Or Nottingham Lace)

-Last but not least, I suggest an expansion to this pack - a few songs with drum charts instead of guitar, charted with the middle being bass pedal, and the other four...uh...well I don't know enough about drums for that =P Just a suggestion, though - Rock Band made it work =P

I'd like to suggest the song 'Byakuya [True Light]'. It's the opening song to the anime DNAngel, and I have the full version of it as an mp3 that I can give to whoever needs it. Tell Trexxen if you accept the song as a possible idea, and I'll be sure he gets the mp3 to give to you. [Unless he frets it himself, with 'to fret' being similar to 'to step' in SM terms.]

Also, I'd like to add 'The World' by Nightmare to my list. [I'll edit my post more as I think of other songs, to prevent cluttering the thread with my posting.]

Well, I never said you HAD to have a GH/RB controller to play my pack. You can configure the controls and buttons in the options menu for the keyboard. This is what I recommend:

Set the keyboard configurations (on PIU) to:

Down Left: 5
Up Left: 6
Center: 7
Up Right:8
Down Right:9

When you play a song with these configurations, hold the keyboard like this:
(Instead of using buttons 12345, use 56789, because when you use the 12345 configuration, there are some three and four note chords that are impossible to hit.)

For fast strumming, use the 56789 configuration and add:

Down Left: NumPad1
Up Left: NumPad2
Center: NumPad3
Up Right: NumPad4
Down Right: NumPad5

I will explain the poll. In every guitar hero game so far (except Rock's the 80's and GH3 and Aerosmith), there has been one song, normally located at the top of the bonus song list, and it is known as a "Be a Guitar Hero" Award Winner. For this pack, it means that which ever song is voted most is the game sponsor.
I don't know why it is used in GH, but I think it would be a good idea to sponsor a band in this game.

And yes. On the poll, only one of the songs will make it. Since no one else seems to be polling, since you are vice president, you could help by spreading the news about my new game so I can get some more requests and votes on the poll.

FOF sucks.

Anyway, shouldn't the "be a guitar hero" nominees be more underground and not well known like the "be a guitar hero" winners?

Well yes, but I can't see what makes pretending to play Guitar Hero on Stepmania any better, at least FOF was made to emulate Guitar Hero

All the cool people hack Guitar Hero with their own songs anyway :P

The only reason I don't use Frets on Fire is because it runs slow on my computer. I would use it if I could, but I don't have the correct graphic card.
