Default ::Project MIDI Mix::

Hey wutz up? I'm having this project started on my forum but I'd figure I'd let everyone else know about it.

As you all are aware, Stepmania does not support MIDI files, so yes this means you have to actually put some effort into converting MIDI to mp3/ogg. In other words, if you have a sound recorder, record the MIDI and save it as mp3/ogg.

The songs that are allowed to be used in this pack must be MIDI's of Beatmania and Dance Dance Revolution (and if anyone knows where they can grab ITG MIDIs, pm me).

Best site to look for the MIDI's is here... http://www.vgmusic.com/music/other/m.../index-af.html

Also if you are going to make new graphics or re-use the old ones for the MIDIs make sure you have (MIDI Mix) as the sub title.

Full stepcharts are encouraged, but if you are going to make only one level of difficulty, PLEASE make it CHALLENGE/ONI and not HEAVY.

Send your submissions to me at cmgutopia@aim.com so that once the project is over, I'll ZIP them and host it on rapidshare, placing the pack in another thread (or with the other originals, I havent decided yet).

And lastly, if you dont have a sound recorder on your computer, just pm me the song you want to make steps for and I'll convert the MIDI into a workable mp3 file for you.

Once we have submissions I will put up a list of what songs were submitted with what difficulty. Also after the pack is complete, I'll make Nonstop/ONI courses for it.

Project ends on Halloween.

Happy Simfileing

I don't mean to be negative, but... why?
Why listen to the midi version of a song that we all probably have?

Although I guess it's entirely your opinion, they're NOT like different arrangements of songs. They're the same arrangement with worse sounds. But whatever.

MIDI is not a sound, so it can't sound awesome or ugly or whatever.

all a MIDI does is control a synthesizer (or a set of synths).

granted, the standard MIDI synths are pathetic at best, so his opinion does have some basis. midis can be used to control other synths, but not in a standard MIDI file (they have an explicit set of synthesizers as determined by your computer's patch bank)

the content of midi files can be applied to synths in various programs (FL comes to mind) to bypass the patch bank problem.

With the explanation that was given by the OP, it seems using the generic sounds is the intention. In that case, bleah. That's why I posted as I did.

MIDIs only can sound bad beacuse of the sounds that the synth it is using, has crappy sounding "instruments." However, they can be changed. So if anyone wishes for it to sound more "realistic" get a MIDI editor and do so.

question (a little off topic, but where would be better to ask)... Cellphone ringtones... They can have vocals and still have a MIDI format. Why is that?
