Beatma- erm... Scratch: The Ultimate DJ Announced

Today developer '7 Studios' announced their take on the music game genre, Scratch: The Ultimate DJ. Flaunting a partnership with Numark and Quincy Jones III, Scratch is said to "allow players to re-imagine songs on the fly and add their own creativity". The game is getting a custom "scratch-pad" to be played with. I don't know if it's just me or not, but the screencaps look a lot like a GH/RBish take on a certain 5-key DJ title released in 1998.
The urban-focused DJ title is slated to drop in Spring 2009 for the XBox 360 and Playstation 3.
I'm going to be really upset if Konami doesn't sue the pants off them. Regardless though, it's probably going to fail.. but seriously it's one thing to make a DJ game, and another to blatantly copy Beatmania

lol, yes, that's the first thing I noticed.
the timing windows will probably be very loose as well. omg look im doing awesome.
The good news is when Konami sues, we might get another US version of Beatmania. (ITG is sued and we get SuperNOVA, RB is sued and we get Rock Revolution.)
The bad news? Look at how badly they turned out. -_-
If they were gonna ripoff something and add an "urban" (aka "too scared to say black") feel to it...they should have gone with crackin' dj. then i might actually buy it.
It's just retarded, but whatever. Terrible name as well. At least it won't tank as hard as BM US because they tried as hard as they could to make it look like GH.
hm... 5 keys and a turntable... Where have I heard that before...
X-Play- "we give it a 5 out of 5, for its unique controller, gameplay, and difficulty curve that makes even the most advance players have trouble". I can see it now...
x-play will review this and say that beatmania ripped this off.
I'm curious to what the controller will look like.
lol, I wouldn't be surprised.

Hey, as long as it gives a better song selection than Beatmania US did... seriously, that was rather weak.
And the graphics do actually have an interesting style to them.
But, of course, the problem is how obviously derivative it is. The Konami suit on Rock Band is bollocks, but they would be completely justified here. This is inexcusable.
But again, if it has a good songlist, I might just want it...
I understand the strategy here but with GH and RBand out, I'm worried that it will just be called another clone. I don't loathe the concept but I am upset as many other IIDX players are. Well if it is a success I can only hope that it gets some people to respect IIDX a bit more.
Wow, it's like Guitar Hero took beatmania into LA and savagely and without mercy raped it in every conceivable way until beatmania was impregnated with this game.
How the fuck is this even possible, fucking beatmania came out in america. This is simple blatant copying and copyright infringement in its purest form.
I fucking despise the American gaming industry, every fucking day that passes I just hate it more and more.
The way the notes fly in looks like it would get confusing.
well i mean it flies in, but then has a good long while down the whatever the fuck you want to call it ha, ...you know, that part that looks like IIDX hahaha

You don't seem to understand that most Rhythm game players these days only know Guitar Hero and rock band, and as such only like the hallway note style.

If they do they really don't focus on Konami all they do is say "konami knocks off scratch with
Beatmania"
I'm going to cry and Throw up DX

The difference between this and IIDX is the potential song list. The thing said it will have "hip-hop", so... I probably won't be interested.
I'll wait until I see the song list to make any sort of judgement.
Partnership with Numark = I'm interested.

Honestly, they don't even try anymore. It's like they purposely look for good games to rip off, then do them worse. Then the American gamers are all "OMG ITS SO NEW AND INNOVATIVE" even though the ideas are over a decade old. This goes for GH, RB and now this. IMO, I think this will be horrible compared to Beatmania just as GH/RB is horrible compared to GF/DM.
If Konami doesn't sue I will be very disappointed.

Seriously why is Konami the only one who can think of anything original for music games. I mean seriously just look at the list of bemani games it is not impossible, for christs sake just LOOK at jubeat and tell me that its not original. Companies are just too lazy to think of their own ideas and resort to stealing others ideas.

You're supposed to hold a button and scratch at the moment of it touching the bottom. I'm guessing you're not even making any of the sounds yourself. But I seriously don't care. I hope it becomes popular.. then Konami will see the light - I just hope.
But then they'll make bad western versions with lower difficulties..
Oh hell, I'll just keep importing the beauties.

Sik'm konami SIK'M guuud.
*hisses*
Also, I LOL'd PRETTY hard at the controller.
Clever.

So wait, is this DJ Hero?

if there's any Qbert on this, i'll be semi-sold.
but until then, i'll just assume it's gonna be shit.

what's even worse is that Be-pachi Music has a hallway view....so there is absolutely nothing original about this
i hate how companies aren't putting any effort into the music game genre anymore. i just seems like they take a bemani game, gut it, and stuff it with a ton of lame licensed songs, and act like they were the first to do it.
but yeah...they're messing with KoJ's musical flagship....not exactly a wise thing to do given their history
i won't be surprised if an american company makes a game where you are in a castle trying to kill dracula with a whip next....it's gotten that bad

It was called Castlevania: Order of Shadows for Mobile Phone...and boy did it suck...and yet it is an official game.
Oh yeah...so much for DJ HERO.

just LOOK at jubeat and tell me that its not original.
mo, meet Ouendan.
jubeat is not Ouendan. Just because you touch something to a beat doesn't mean its the same. This is so much closer to beatmania than jubeat is to Ouendan
of course this is Beatmania with the TT on the wrong side, and fancy colors and visuals. Of course for the most part we all see that it's a blatent rip-off and that KONAMI WILL SUE :p. I'm not pissed b/c of this. Honestly if the game is good, and the music is good, then hey good job to them. Maybe it will attract a larger audience into IIDX...who knows
So no, i'm not pissed that this is a ripoff of beatmania
I'm pissed b/c of what "they" are going to say. They, being those people that just don't know, and are to stubborn to admit it. The people who say Guitar Freaks is a Rip off of Guitar Hero, even though it's been out SINCE LIKE 1991. I'm pissed b/c now i'm going to have to deal with other thinking I'm playing the ripoff, the unoriginal. But you know what. It's w/e. You enjoy you game with crappy timing windows (if any at all) and you semi-hard charts. I'll stick with the games that make me look pro.
In other news,
like i said, If the soundtrack is good, and the game itself is good, then good job to them. But i'm not sure how good it's going to be when the music is liek what i'm quoting from the press release
Quote:
“Having spent 20 years as a music producer for artists such as Tupac, LL, and Ice Cube, it is rewarding to work with 7 Studios, Genius and Genco to ensure that there is authenticity in every detail of this game.
not that i'm critising this genre of music, but just saying it's no bemani soundtrack :\
also

7 Studios joins Activision and presumably any other company with half a brain (you listening, Konami?) as it vies for precious mindshare of the next potential gaming phenomenon.
did i miss something, or can someone explain how this is the next potential gaming phenomenon, when beatmania already exists?
hm... 5 keys and a turntable... Where have I heard that before...

I think I'm going to cry again I think someone should show x-play beatmania/IIDX before they get ahold of scratch (though its already to late) T.T

Like seriously, holy shit. Wow. How is that even a legit statement anyone can say and not feel really dumb afterward?
And fuck Activision.
So sick of them trying to revolutionize the music game genre...by stealing or encouraging stealing, of already present ideas.
Never buying another one of their games (even tho I dont think I ever have ha)
The only possible good thing I could see coming from this game, would be if Konami (yes I know this is a long shot here) decided to actually go ahead and localize DJ TROOPERS to compete with this game in '09. By localize, I mean simply translating the menus/song names, and leaving everything else alone this time.
Yeah I know, not happening... but damn that'd be cool.
The people who say Guitar Freaks is a Rip off of Guitar Hero, even though it's been out SINCE LIKE 1991.
you mean....1998?
I was talking about GF, not beatmania. I'm really not sure, but i do know that in Masterpiece gold, it says in the opening video "Since 1991", so thats where i got that info
EDIT: Wait a second... guys. Isn't there something we can, you know, do about this?
I mean, if you're like me, and you this this peace of shit knockoff and I mean it's CLEARLY FUCKING 5KEY, you're fucking enraged. It looks like EVERYTHING that Konami has done is going to be brutally sodomized, completely ripped off and packaged in a fresh, supposedly new container.
We're this huge music gaming website. Can't we, you know, do something to expose that this is a complete and total rip off?
I mean they don't deserve to keep making games that aren't original ideas any more.

Weird...since the game was released in 1998. Maybe some of the music dates back to 1991? or the concept of the game started in 1991?
Anyway..regardless, I'm really curious to how much of an epic fail this might be.
Next in the music game lineup, Pop'n Hero. I can so see it coming.

Naw, DJ Hero is going to come right after this game, just like Rock Band did after Guitar Hero, but DJ Hero will bounce back in competitive persuit, adding 2 more peripherals, a microphone (to add custom voices) and groove mat (so you can practice doing head-spins), but let's not forget our last competitior, Konami will come out with DJ Revolution, featuring all of the above peripherals, minus the microphone, with no Konami originals.
It's plain black and white here for the future of music games.
