It's been a while since we've brought a progress update on the new version of the site that's in the works. A lot of this is because of all of the other projects we have going on. Trying to juggle 3 website/business reboots at once can get pretty tricky. Regardless, progress is being made and what data entry we have done so far is maybe a bit too comprehensive for our own good.
The front end of the new site is still pretty much empty because we're focusing on getting all of the new features working and filling in all of the data so we can test it all as we build it. It's a pretty daunting project, so we're going to restructure our staff a bit in an attempt to get it all finished sooner. We're going to split staff positions on the new site to Data Entry, News/Editorials, Forum Moderation, Interactive Feature Moderation, and Promotion.
The first step in this is going to be the open call for Data Entry staff. We're looking for dedicated individuals with anywhere between 5 and 10 hours of free time to help out a week to help us fill the database in. Unlike our current database, the focus on the new site is the major series with the random one of games getting eventual feature pages but no comprehensive data pages. The games we're currently looking for people to help fill in are:
5-Key beatmania
beatmania III
Dance Dance Revolution
Dance Maniax
DJ Hero (upon release)
DJ MAX
Guitar Hero
GuitarFreaks & DrumMania
in the groove
jubeat
Karaoke Revolution
ParaParaParadise
pop'n music
Pump it Up!
Rock Band
SingStar
Taiko no Tatsujin
We're trying to limit the number of people working on a particular series for the sake of not complicating things too much. This new database is much easier to work with that the current one on the site (if you've ever heard the horror stories) but it also requires things to be done in a certain order for it to work properly.
The hope is to have each person who applies dedicated to one or 2 different games, and they would update information as new games are announced and released. In the case of stuff that is no longer in production (5-key games, in the groove, etc.) we would find other projects for the people working on those games to manage. As of right now the data entry staff has consisted of myself and one other person with small contributions from other parties from time to time. We'd really like to get some dedicated people on board and streamline this process some more.
If you're interested in applying, contact me via e-mail (eddie [at] bemanistyle.com) with the subject "bemanistyle 8 Data Entry application". Please include an alternate way to contact you (AIM, MSN, Skype are preferred) as well as some sort of reference or description as to your qualification for the position in question.
