Brett Ratner was apparently not kidding
Posted by Reenee - Tue 09/16 2008 - 03:14 PM - 1200 Views

Why we thought he was kidding. But we are all oh so wrong:

Quote:
Director Brett Ratner has been plenty vocal about wanting to develop a movie based on the game Guitar Hero. But Activision, the company that owns the franchise, isn't going for it. "I'd really like to do it, but they're not letting me," he tells EW.com. "I expressed my interest, but because it's such a success, it's like now there's no reason to make a movie about it." Ratner is a big fan of the game, incorporating it into videos he's directed for Miley Cyrus and Mariah Carey, and he envisioned a story about a small-town kid who dreams of fame and wins a Guitar Hero competition. "The game is wish-fulfilling, everyone can be a rock star." But despite the setback, Ratner is not giving up hope. "I might prevail," he says. "I usually do."
Maybe if he'd fit a Power Glove in there we might have something.

Thanks anyway, Activision.

Exactly how touching/amazing of a story could you make with a plot idea like that. It's horrible. I've sat here for like 5 minutes trying to think of something to say but seriously nothing comes to mind other than this is horrible

Careful what you say guys, he just might prevail.

Nice pic of him. He looks very cocky. So his idea of a plot is to have a kid win a guitar hero competition.... I could just go to my local Gamestop to see that plot in action... for free.

"I might prevail," he says. "I usually do." heh

"I expressed my interest, but because it's such a success, it's like now there's no reason to make a movie about it."

Isn't that the reason NOT to make a movie about it - because it's too popular for nobody to care if/when it sucks complete bollocks?

I don't think they'd risk their big franchise for the sake of making the stupidest movie EVER.

A small town kid suddenly, out of chance becomes a Rock Star, HOW ORIGINAL!

$5 says at the end of the movie he doesn't like it and goes back to his normal life because he's drifting further and further away from his family and friends or something.

I gave the news post a + because it has informed me that Activision is saying "no" to a GH movie. This is very good news.

I think this post's I got it, but not funny level goes to OVER 9000, like Vegeta's scouter.

And >9000 is a lot bigger number than 11.

Are you kidding? It'll end with him realizing his dream of being a rock star and becoming one, and they all lived happily ever after the end.

The Crowing Posted by The Crowing - Wed 09/17 2008 - 12:48 AM     [ quote ]
I bet he develops a sentimental connection with his GH controller, and at the end of the movie he realizes that its done all it can for him and that it's time for him to carve his own path as a rock star, so he tosses it in the trash or over a bridge or something, then the closing shot is some other kid finding the controller and being like, "Woah."

And then the credits come up.

Then everyone in the theater groans because as terrible as the movie that they just watched was, now they know that there's going to be an even worse sequel.

That's not how American movies work, to them, what you described is boring, generic, and used too much.

So now in nearly every movie when someone becomes successful, at the end they don't like it any more and they've learned the lesson of "be grateful for what you've got"

And in turn, that ending has become boring, generic, and used too much.

Oh yeah you are right.

He gets shot in the end because someone he beat in the first GH competition got pissed he became a rock star, he dies, everyone mourns, ends with Guitar Hero controller.

...damn the more possible endings that are brought to my attention the more I realize that this movie will get dumber and dumber.

Which sets up the obligatory revenge sequel, "Guitar Hero: The Movie 2 - Not Without My Whammy Bar".

"This summer, VENGEANCE JUST ACTIVATED STAR POWER."

Even that I'm not too sure about.

Every director seems to always want to have an ending that leaves the audience feeling good...

UGH, JUST MAKE JUKE BOX HERO BY FOREIGNER INTO A MOVIE, WHY DON'T YOU.

Wait, that actually sounds like a fairly decent idea.

NEVER MIND, HOLLYWOOD.
