Famitsu Web Site List a Few Minor Details on EMPRESS + Premium
Posted by nestlekwik - Mon 07/13 2009 - 08:29 AM - 1636 Views

While it doesn't break anything huge for the game (well, okay, maybe an advanced offering from SIRIUS is huge to some of you), Famitsu's Web site today launched a story confirming the details provided in our initial announcement of beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS + PREMIUM BEST.

The page states the obvious in that the package of 180 songs offers more songs than any other home version of the game to date. Included in the song set will be a selection of songs that reflect the series' 10-year history. Of course, the set will include EMPRESS tunes and, as expected out of CS releases, some console original tunes will make the cut, along with, as mentioned already, an advanced selection from 17 SIRIUS.

Lastly, unless I'm reading this wrong, it may also appear Konami will be moving away from the Playstation 2 with the series after this entry. I'll have others take a look at the page and translate it better than I can, but seeing "end" paired with the system gives me that impression and given how far into the Playstation 2's life cycle we are, this had to happen eventually.

Of course, we'll have more on the title as the information becomes available. In the mean time, if you want up close and personal views of the pics ran in the Famitsu and Dengeki scans, they are available on the same site as the link provided above.

beatmania IIDX 16 EMPRESS + PREMIUM BEST is now available for pre-order at Play-Asia.com for $84.90

Cool, Scripted Connection is getting revived.

Everything else looks pretty slick though. Three months is a hell of a wait but it'll be so worth it.

Yay for Sirius preview songs!

Wouldn't be surprised if this was the last PS2 IIDX. I mean, considering we're getting 180 songs, I kind of expected it.

Yeah, it definitely translates as the last Playstation 2 version.

I'm just hoping they actually implement split difficulties this time around. Otherwise, it's looking good so far.

180 songs...in a home version. Wow. I guess they'll start development on PS3 after this. Should be interesting.

Everyone's assumption is that the PS2 version of the engine can't handle split difficulties, otherwise I'm sure they would have been implemented long ago. I'm not holding out for them on EMPRESS CS. Maybe SIRIUS CS (if it ever comes out) considering it'll probably have a newly-written engine, or at the very least a port of the AC engine

Wow, just wow. I don't know why, but I feel that the release date (Oct 2009) is closer than I had expected. This is definitely going to be the final PS2 IIDX release; I'm really excited about this game + PREMIUM BEST. =)

I like how they have a picture showing that V is in the game, as though we didn't expect it.

No, you've got it right. The sentence says particularly "Because this is the last PS2 game, they're drawing songs from IIDX's 10-year-old lineup."

I hope they don't just plan on recycling the Empress interface for the Premium Best ver. Not having unlockable themes would be a complete waste of potential.

I'm crossing my fingers for Konami shifting the series over to the 360, as unlikely as that is. Hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on a PS3 by the time they make the jump.

Dare my dream of getting Silvia Drive and Flash of Love on the same disc become a reality? Hell, dare my dream of Flash of Love getting revived at all become a reality...

Regardless, this is a must-buy. What kind of LE do you think this will get?

And here ends my IIDX PS2 playing career

If it's on a PS3, then I'm fucked because I'm not buying a PS3 just to play one game, and if it's on 360, then IDK because I don't know how the regionlocking works there

If this is the last PS2 version, I'll be pleased. This is a cool way to go out.

If its on the PS3, you only need one console to play IIDX... if its on the 360 looks like your going to have to import a system. So I'm more then hoping its for the PS3 and then I can finally decide whether plunking down the money for a decent controller is worth it. I knew the end of PS2 days were coming so I wasn't going to spend $300 for a good control, we'll see where this goes. PS3 I'll continue, 360 I'll stop.

Now as for V... has anyone said V ~Long version~? Probably the easiest long version to ever hit IIDX (hasn't it only been 2?) Now to wake up...

OMG....that's it!

It's coming to PS3......my biggest dream ever....it's about to become reality!

[you remember my thread right?]

Plus I believe there is no region code cause my friend has the Japanese Gundam counterpart of the NA version of Gundam crossfire, so.....you know what that means....hehehehehehe...

The other post a little lower said it was a two-disc set, so it's probably pretty safe to assume that it's DVD!

Folks here seem to be assuming that PS3 is more likely for the next versions than 360...is this all just speculation, or is there any actual information that would lead folks to believe this?

I ask because 360 has become the home for just about all new Japanese shmups, initially due to its significantly lower development cost, and now because it's already the home for shmups. IIDX is a hardcore niche, just like shmups are... it sucks that I'll have to buy *another* 360 just to play them, but it looks like Cave is about to announce Espgaluda II for 360 and that will seal the deal for me.

Now dont get me wrong, I love the 360 and would rather play IIDX on it...but there's no way I'll import a j360 just for this (and maybe IdolM@ster. The youtube vids look intresting...but I digress). If it comes to PS3 then I already have a IIDX controller+ PS2 to PS3 adabter and it'll play JPS3 games (tho not PS2/PSX....I guess I'll never leave my PS2)

Since PS3 has all the good stuff that 360 has (or alot of it), plus Metal Gear Solid 4, plus Tekken/Street Fighter/BlazBlue on a GOOD fighting controller, plus all the PSX downloads, all IIDX does is seal the deal for me.

oh PS: if it goes to Wii and gets the Pop'n treatment I quit. Had to throw that in there

I agree...I've been holding out buying my PS3 for now because I don't feel that there are enough games I would play to make buying it worthwhile. I planned on getting FFXIII (but that's not till later), and I love BlazBlue, SFIV, MGS4, etc.

If IIDX goes to PS3 - I'd be more than willing to to get one (esp. since there's no region protection on games)

MixMasterLar Posted by MixMasterLar - Tue 07/14 2009 - 04:12 PM     [ quote ]
Also worth throwing in that there will prpbably be a price drop on it by the time IIDX17 is released. that goes for any of the systems, tho.

It will be interesting to see where Konami goes with this. Whether it's ps3 or 360, I'm sure it'll get a nice upgrade

Nothing against the ps3, it's great in it's own right, but I just have to throw in my 2 cents for that. While I did enjoy MGS4, it was too much movie and not enough game. I'll agree that the ps3 controller is better for fighting games than the 360 one, but that doesn't matter, because most people who actually play fighters use arcade sticks. Since I'm sure so many people on here have a jap/modded ps2, I don't think they would want to buy old psx games.

If it's PS3, we know that all releases will be region free, and there are plenty of PS2 > PS3 controller adapters.

So US 360s can't play Japanese games?

Fuck

I'm screwed then, this is my last IIDX game by the looks of it unless I go backwards

I'm not buying another system

Supposedly, it is supposed to be decided per game, as in some games don't have a region lock, some do. Leafing through Play-Asia's chart, though, I can't recall seeing any Asian discs being compatible with US systems.

Already have a JPS2. Better set aside enough money for this.

And I usually don't buy imports.

Actually, Asian discs are usually region-free. Many people in the US intentionally buy the Asian versions of games rather than their own domestic versions, because they're often cheaper. Japanese region discs--which are distinct and separate from Asian versions--are pretty much always locked to Japan.

Usually, Japanese niche games (like shmups) do not get Asian versions.

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.

It's been so long since I've posted anything here on bemanistyle. And I'm just going to say...."360 sucks with it's Microsoft American made crap!" it'll be on PS3. Put your brains together people and look at the pattern and history of beatmania. Always been with Sony and always going to stay with Sony.

All we needed was one person to say that in "hopes" it'll make it to the 360, and we have an array of speculation. My first thought when I read this post was PS3 and done deal. I don't see The developers really making crossover to microsofts system.

dj Z00M, that logic no longer applies. Look at Tekken 6, Final Fantasy XIII, and all of the new Japanese shmups. If this were last gen, they'd all be PS2 exclusives, but now they are all on 360. (T6 and FF XIII are still on PS3 also, but IIDX is unlikely to wind up multiplatform.)

I'm not saying that PS3 will be unlikely, but I hardly think it'll be a certainty now that the market has drastically changed.

very true...(radio edit) lol jk. Well, ultimately, konami and it's "bemani" series did surprise everyone with pop'n music wii version. So...maybe IIDX will be on the 360. Highly unlikely to me, but not having hopes on it.
