In a suprise, Konami put up a new game on location test. It's Guitar freaks/Drummania....XG? Yes, its not quite V7 it seems to be an new ehhhhh, version of GF/DM (think 5 key to IIDX). Changes?

- It seems that open is now part of normal guitar charts (unsure about this one)
- vibration added when wailing
Drummania
- Left high hat and floor tom added
- Hi Hat pedal and 2nd bass pedal added (not quite sure about the 2nd bass pedal)
Songlist

Old songs
Vampire Killer
Over the Limit

whoa. I guess they just were getting tired of it being too easy?

5 frets & long notes?......Nah, I won't say it.
I really hope Open is the new Normal. & I like how the guitar vibrates when you do wail.
Also, HYPER JET LAND?!? Sounds like a sequel to Jet World & Magical Jet Tour!

As if these games weren't hard enough as it is...
I'd hate to see what something like TL100S looks like on the new drums. :(

I'm so pumped about this. Apparently Konami has finally decided to reboot the series, and make all the changes fans have been asking for (more frets, 2nd foot pedal, etc.) This is assuming that V6 will be the last V release of course... they may become separate for all we know.
I really hope they go with a US test/release for this, the cabinets really look great.

I feel like they changed to be more like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Guitar Freaks sounds just like Guitar Hero now, but Drummania sounds quite hard. Maybe they are going to make this localized in America too... Just Kidding.

Well maybe, but I can only imagine how much punishment Konami is going to be able to dole out with 2 new fret buttons to work with and no hammer-on system to date.
I really hope that it doesn't come to the States though, considering how Guitar Hero is doing a bit of a number on Rock Band with brand power alone. It would get hopelessly slaughtered no matter how much catering it does to the American Bemani crowd and I doubt Konami has the foresight/good intentions of making a GH/DM game compatible with our current GH/RB guitars to boot.

So wait, you don't want it to come to the states at all or just officially through Konami and Betson or whoever would bring it? I'd be pretty fugged off if I didn't hear of a couple of these making it across the Pacific.
Just think if this game was released a home version in the US, and X-Play called it "The REAL Guitar Hero Ripoff." : P
In all seriousness though, that picture of the new DrumMania cabinet is making me salivate' let's hope we at least see a location test in the states soon.
this game will be too easy just like GH/RB unless they still make you strum every note, picking the wrong note counts as two misses, and you can't hold excess buttons for single-button picking.

Guys, they added two buttons. Now the game is easy.
Long as the game still has an actual timing window, i'd play it over GH/RB any day.
You think for even a moment that they're just going to take out note judgment and ruin the GF/DM formula, just to compete with GH/RB in a market that gives a shit about neither? You people astound me.
If this goes as well as I think, this could be amazing. I would also like to see EU imports somewhere down the line, as this likely ain't coming over here properly.

It would be great if it come through Konami, Benson or something, but I don't believe it would do very well at all with reviewers and sales to really convince Konami to keep at it. At worst, it could be another Beatmania US, alienating both newcomers and veterans alike. Competing directly with Rock Band and Guitar Hero's home versions won't do it any favors either.

drummania blows so who cares lmao
lol seriously dude?
otaku, normally I respect your bemani skillz and opinion but cool it. GF/DM is a good game series.
I honestly doubt they'll keep around the old mixes but instead just offer you Classic or XG before/during game mode kind of like how Pop'n offers the 5 or 9 buttons, allowing you to enjoy both versions on the new kit. I'd say maybe the next single mix will be released on both in some fashion and then that's the ax for original GFdm.

Why wouldn't they keep the old one around? BMI and III were around until 7th Style, and IIDX offered a 5key mode as well (before it turned into a mod)
As a dm player I am horrified by the new drumset, but I can't wait to play it either. I'll be buying plane tickets and making a trip to SVGL as soon as they get one.

we have seen this before
1: they had GFDM mixes. it was good.
2: they released GFDM V, it was even cooler. we all love it
3: they release GFDM XG, its sota iffy.
(this is a prediction.)4: they re-release GFDM with some fancy new title with the same format as V.
sounds familliar.

Hate to break it to you, but even your #3 is a prediction and I'm having some difficulty finding why GFdm is different from GFdm V aside from internal hardware. #4 is just weird...

Its a joke ;_; its what happened to beatmania. or something
tbh, I dont think the new additions are good. on the other hand, I love the new interface as well as the cabinets. (except the layout of the GUI, thats a terrible position)

They added two new keys to beatmania?! This is going to be a huge failure.

As if GF wasn't hard enough... 5 note scales back and forth with a timing window is going to be ridiculous =(

Hehehehe @ guys gold shoes in picture 2/4. The guitar looks like the same build as the GH arcade version. Did you guys know Michael Jackson is dead?

Hi-Hat Pedal = Win. The real question is, how are they going to use it? Are there going to be open/closed hits?

I believe that's the whole point of the hi-hat pedal. :\
There could also be stepping on the pedal by itself. :3

This is going to be awesome, change is always welcomed. Don't know what the naysayers are complaining about, successful formulas are only temporary until everyone gets sick of it.

I'm really confused about why the moved the bd lane to the right of the ht....I hope enough people complain that they move if back before it releases :(
I welcome the addition of new drums and pedals and all that, but rearranging the display for no real reason doesn't make a lot of sense.
REGARDLESS still hype to play it

Just as I was starting to accept that my Arcade would never upgrade to V6, you bring this out and confirm there will be no more upgrades to the machines.
;_;
CS release, pleasepleasepleaseplease

Corey says it's highly unlikely that SVGL will ever get XG.
It's a little different, Rock Revolution was meant for the American market to compete with Guitar Hero and Rock Band, whereas GFDM XG is meant for the Japanese market as GFDM IIDX

Exactly. Instead of trying to make something that they think will appeal to the American audience (which often fails), they should have taken the game series that's been thriving in Japan for years, and improved it - like this.

when I think about it, the new dm setup probably wouldn't do well in america, since it might be too difficult for the casual gamer. So I wouldn't expect them to try to localize this.

Having 2 overcharted songs on the horrible 3rd iteration of the game doesn't mean it's hard.
Neither of them were that overcharted at all, really. TTFAF did have a questionable keyboard thrown in, but in any case, why don't you FC Jordan then? That song is heavily undercharted.

Guys can we just enjoy our respective, very different music games that appeal to different audiences without turning the whole thing into a dickwagging contest? Great, thanks.

listen to you and your hope that music game players can be even remotely reasonable

That's the hi-hat pedal, meng.
Uh no the hihat pedal is on the left between the hihat and snare. The bass pedal got moved over from between snare and hi tom to between hi tom and low tom. Check out some of the videos on youtube.
