Yep good old Michigan has had a taste of this for about maybe half a year by now... thanks to Video Hits Plus and their lack of purchasing real arcade games :P
"Konami will sue, and it's not even their franchise"
I'm sure they have some patent on "arcade machines in which a simulated guitar is pretended to be played with colored buttons and a fake pick" or something

I never understood the real reasons why this would be illegal.

Obvious reason would be that you're making money off of it when you're not supposed to.

Well if they do sue anyone they have to do the same to any game center that charges to play console games (LAN centers have come a long way) But I don't quite a see a point to them taking anyone to court when it's free advertisement. :P
Andy's post is amazing. I suggest that everyone read it.

This weekend, I had the opportunity to beta test Guitar Hero IV ~Flush to Infinity~ at TGA prior to it's public unveiling. I must say, I am very impressed! The quality of the cabinet is solid, and the songlist is literally flowing with amazing new tracks!
As you can see in the third picture posted by Andy, I am demonstrating the new whammy bar functionality for gameplay. As always, it can be used to bend the stream and enhance your star power. But there also a new ability called Flush Power, the effects of this must be seen to be believed! Awesome is all I can say, and you will definitely need it for that new DragonForce song, just wow.
In conclusion, Guitar Hero IV ~Flush to Infinity~ is an excellent addition to TGA's arcade lineup, and made the trip this weekend from New Jersey worth every second. But even better will be the release of DJ Poopers later this year, with a planned Session Mode to link up with nearby GH IV cabinets.

There's a bootleg Guitar Hero III machine at Virginia Center Commons Mall in Glen Allen, Virginia. Same exact setup as the one in the original post, $1 for 5 minutes (which is barely enough to complete one song). I have no idea where the machine came from, but it needs to go. Thankfully there's a volume knob on it, because the volume setting it's usually at makes it drown out all the other machines in the arcade.

There is no way in hell this can be illegal. I think it is smart, beating those retards to the punch at at least attempting to go arcade with GH. Anyone who has commented by saying "Illegal" or anything along the lines of that need to brush up on their legal information.
They did not have permission from Activation and or Harmonix/MTV. ie, it is illegal. Seriously Snapps and Paranoia malice, are you two like, being badly sarcastic or are you hoping these will be legal?

@ Manator.
I dont think their hoping it would be legal considering you can buy it and play it at home with no time limit. Its not like DDR/PIU/PNM/IIDX/GF/DM/Taiko etc... where you have to play on an arcade cab to get the most out of it if you don't already own a decent ASC. Those machines seem to have the same guitars you buy for the home versions anyway. The only reason they would want it to not be legal is if their complete poop faces and want to show off their cool GH skillz. LAWL
All seems pointless to me.

i could imagine how if someone took too long to pick a song, they wouldn't be able to get to the end of it =P
Mint Mania IIDX: and that matters why?
Konami clearly didn't care. But in the sue happy end of the 2000s, these will be noticed and will be gone after lawsuits. Konami wasn't very protective of it's series until a real company started churning out ITG...these are more like little home projects.

This is illegal because they didn't have permission to do this. Commercial use or sale of the video game to make a profit is ILLEGAL! I don't care if it's in the form of an 'arcade cabinet'; it's still against the company policy. I'm surprised that arcades managers would even take risks like that. The only LEGAL GH machine is Guitar Hero IV ~Flush to Infinity~ because you don't need permission to take a piss/shit.
