As previously reported, the game features five button, seven button, and the original nine button modes, but Konami has given the button layouts for players who were curious about how the gameplay would translate on the PSP system.
The layout is as follows (Starting from button on the very left to the button on the very right):
1: Left directional key.
2: L shoulder button.
3: Down directional key.
4: Up directional key.
5: Square button.
6: Triangle button.
7: Cross (X) button.
8: R shoulder button.
9: Circle (O) button.
Still confused? Take a look at the screenshot Konami's provided in the pictures below.
Besides the button layout, there's also a vague description of "Adventure Mode" that simply states "Play as either Mimi or Nyami and travel through Pop'n Land. Pop'n Battle with characters blocking your path while unlocking new songs". Several screenshots have been provided to help shed a little bit more light on the mode as well.
Songlist-wise, pop'n music portable will boast a final songcount of over 80 songs and when players clear songs in game mode, they can listen to them in the PSP-exclusive "music player mode", so you can listen to your favorite pop'n songs on-the-go. To give you a little something to hold you over until the release date, they've also provided a partial songlist on the website:
Five and seven button might be DJMax-style fun, but nine sounds way too confusing (not to mention 3-4 and 6-7 chords would be impossible on that default config.)
i would prefer not to pay that much, but i'm a sucker for Pop'n, no question
we'll all get used to 9 button. it wont be easy, but i dont see how i could be happy with playing 7 button forever. it will require some chart reworking though.

it's a really good news that the 9 buttons mode is in this game,
now all we got to do is link the psp to the pc with remotejoy, and map the buttons of the pop'n music ASC controller to the psp keys, something like that : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idftnFr2mJY
this way, it's not so far away from the ps2 version we were all waiting for

I'm just curious if these are going to end up being actual charts, or new charts completely re-worked for portable. I can't imagine them actually putting stuff like niente EX on this game.
