Ryujin writes: Approximately 5 hours after its 11 AM start, the Columbus regional for the US DDR National Tournament has come to a close. Here's a summary of the tourney throughout the course of the day:

Girl playing with Brett: 8105589 (Quick Master, played on Basic)

Pad NCs were rampant in this round - it didn't affect who finished in the top 16, but it played an important role in seeding. One relative unknown local, Kevin Brenneman, ended up with the 10th seed, but other newcomers didn't fare so well in their first ever tournament outings. Still, it was good to see fresh faces join the tourney outside of the typical Bemani crowds, and the tourney give a chance for new eager players to make their mark, get tournament experience, and learn a thing or two from the pros.

Round 2 - 1 on 1 Matches (as with all further rounds), Random Song, High Score advances
(1) Mason (boochypa) vs. (16) Keaton (kruton6)
Song: Red Zone, (1) Mason wins

(2) Jared (JJsz) vs. (15) Brian Hupp
Song: Dragon Blade, (2) JJsz wins 5g to 19g, 1 good

(3) Kevin (MegamanX) vs. (14) Ryan Holland
Song: The Least 100sec, (3) MegamanX wins 2g to 30g, 2 goods, 1a

(4) Charles (PYK) vs. (13) Todd (Ryujin)
Song: Dragon Blade, (4) PYK wins 3g to 9g, 1 almost

(5) Kyle (RiOdO) vs. (12) Jason (Shalori)
Song: Red Zone, (5) RiOdO wins 6g to 17g

(6) AndyFreak457 vs. (11) Dan (PQQP)
Song: Mondo Street, (6) AndyFreak457 wins 7/0/1 to 15/1/4/1

(7) Jimmy (Skeeter) vs. (10) Kevin Brenneman (giuocub)
Song: Mondo Street, (7) Skeeter wins 8g to 32/0/1

8.Carson (HF230) vs. (9) Derek (DVogan)
Song: Mondo Street, 8.HF230 wins 4/0/1 to 3/0/1/1

No big surprises as all the top seeds advance, though HF230 and DVogan's match was really close - 1 NC made the difference there. Of note, You're Not Here was never rouletted in this round.

Round 3 - Random Song, First to 2 Wins Advances
(1) Mason (boochypa) vs. 8.Carson (HF230)
Song 1: You're Not Here, HF230 wins
Song 2: The Least 100sec, HF230 wins 4g to 6g
8.HF230 wins

(2) Jared (JJsz) vs. (7) Jimmy (Skeeter)
Song 1: Dragon Blade, JJsz wins 4/1 to 9g
Song 2: The Least 100sec, Tie 6g to 4/0/0/1
Song 3: Mondo Street, JJsz wins 2/1/2 to 7/0/0/2
(2) JJsz wins

(3) Kevin (MegamanX) vs. (6) AndyFreak457
Song 1: You're Not Here, MegamanX wins 3g to 12g
Song 2: The Least 100sec, MegamanX wins 1g to 12g
(3) MegamanX wins

(4) Charles (PYK) vs. (5) Kyle (RiOdO)
Song 1: Mondo Street, RiOdO wins 1/0/2 to 3g (pad NCs re-calced)
Song 2: Red Zone, RiOdO wins 4g to 5g
(5) RiOdO wins

Pretty solid competition this round, with HF230 and RiOdO picking up some small upsets.

Semis - Limited Song Selection, First to 2 Wins Advances
8.Carson (HF230) vs. (5) Kyle (RiOdO)
Song 1 (HF230): AA, Tie (1g to 1/0/1, pad NC re-calced)
Song 2 (HF230): Brilliant R.E.D., HF230 wins 1g to 6g
Song 3 (Kyle): Orion.78 Civilization Mix, RiOdO wins 7g to 8g
Song 4 (Random): Insertion, RiOdO wins 4g to 8g
(5) RiOdO wins

(2) Jared (JJsz) vs. (3) Kevin (MegamanX)
Song 1 (MegamanX): Insertion, JJsz wins 3g to 4g
Song 2 (JJsz): Tsugaru, Tie (3/1 to 3/0/0/1, pad NCs re-calced)
Song 3 (JJsz): Insertion, Tie (3/0/1 to 3g, pad NC re-calced)
Song 4 (JJsz): Orion.78 Civilization Mix, MegamanX wins 1/0/1/2 to 3g (pad NCs re-calced)
Song 5 (Random): Brilliant R.E.D., MegamanX wins 0/0/0/1 to 3/0/1 (pad NCs re-calced)
(3) MegamanX wins

At this point, pad NCs are becoming more apparent so most of them are simply re-calced.

Carson and Kyle each win their picks with a four-great victory on Insertion sealing Kyle's place in the finals.

Jared beats Kevin on his pick, then the two proceed to tie on the next two songs before Kevin edges him out on Orion.78 Civilization Mix and Brilliant R.E.D.

3rd Place Match - Full Song Selection, Limited Random, First to 2 Wins
8.Carson (HF230) vs. (2) Jared (JJsz)
Song 1 (HF230): Bag, HF230 wins 12g to 15g
Song 2 (JJsz): Centaur, JJsz wins 7g to 11g
Song 3 (Random): Insertion, JJsz wins 1/0/0/1 to 6g
3rd Place: JJsz
4th Place: HF230

Probably less than stellar performances for both on Bag, but each wins their song pick. The pesky Insertion rears its ugly head once more to be the deciding factor, this time in Jared's favor.

Finals - Full Song Selection, Limited Random, First to 3 Wins
(5) Kyle (RiOdO) vs. (3) Kevin (MegamanX)
Song 1 (RiOdO): Xepher Expert, MegamanX wins 2g to 3g
Song 2 (MegamanX): Paranoia Survivor Max Challenge, MegamanX wins AAA to 32/9/6/122
Song 3 (RiOdO): Konoko no nanatsu no oiwaini, MegamanX wins 2g to 6/0/0/1
Champion: MegamanX
Runner-up: RiOdO

Kyle played a tight duel on Xepher but couldn't quite pull it out. Kevin once again does the unthinkable and AAAs PSM Challenge during a match with huge stakes on the line. Kyle delivers a solid performance on Konoko, but Kevin ends up being just a bit too much better this day, taking home the Columbus crown.

As a reminder, the next regional competition in the tournament will be on Oct. 24 in Minneapolis, MN.

Rating: 5 Positive | 0 Negative

I remember when Kevin first started playing DDR waaaaaaay back in the day at Parmatown Mall, when we had 3rd Korean v2. Congrats to him for winning.

Woo hoo, front page! :)

Jared and Kevin had the most competitive match of the entire tourney. Even though Jared lost he did about everything he could yesterday.

Yeah, and then he destroyed my Toledo tournament and even won third place in freestyle, taking home about $100. Congrats again! I know this area has a lot of fierce players and taking the crown is no easy feat.

So I'm 'A local guy'? :P That was really the best you could do? I wore a nametag for a reason :P.

Name's Brian Orchosky. Hello, I guess.

Anyway, I go to OSU, so I thought I would ride the buses down to participate. (BTW, it was thanks to this site that I was even aware of it in the first place). I hadn't played DDR for a while, and was suprised my stamina didn't keep up until the end of Gekkou Chou. So I suppose you could say I 'quit' as well.

That triple AAA on Paranoia Survivor Max surprised me as well.

I'm not exactly a 'relative unknown local' either; I rode up there from Cincinnati, so I'm not really local to there. Anyway, it was my first tournament, and I'm happy that I did well in it.

And you misspelled my name :(

Sorry, I was kind of weaving behind the machine so if your name tag was on the front, or you didn't stick around for the later rounds, I probably missed it.

Completely recalced non-combo steps as perfects? Ugh. Maybe next time if Konami wants to run an official tournament they should make sure the place that runs it has competent workers that can repair pads.

Gahhh, sorry about that one too. I really should've just been more aggressive about talking to everyone there. I'm sure nestlekwik'll fix it though.

Sorry. That costs $20.

I have to catch up on some work, but if I get time later today, I'll comb through and make the changes.

Woo! I lost first! It was so much fun! Shame I didn't really know anyone other than ryujin and kevbo that competed. It was good saying Hi and Bye to most of you. I'm glad I kept my greats under 30 at least haha. Ohddr is tough stuff.

You lost because you didn't get Can't Stop Falling in Love Speed Mix. ;)

Yeah, that's an inside bit no one is going to understand. Man I miss the times when the northwest Ohio scene was in full swing.

Wait so, are they filming each play and arbitrarily giving a Perfect if they see the player stepped on the arrow? Or are they just filling in the gaps just to fill them?

I heard certain remaining GameWorks have horrible pads so this is VERY relevant to my interests...

(and what, AAA on PSM Oni with a bad pad too? did that get recalcs?)

I never found five fingers shoes, chi flat irons and ghd straighteners are so good till i used them. Every morning i wore my vibram five fingers flow shoes for an hour running. When i back, i begin to straighte my hair by ghd hair straighteners Blue Serenity styler. One of My friends, She use the different style ghd hair straighteners: GHD Hair Straighteners Pretty in Pink.
