I regret to inform you all that we have lost one of the great minds behind the Bemani series.
Jason Michael "Stillwind" Borenstein, known to the Bemani community as not only the recent audio director for Dance Dance Revolution in Japan, but also the famous face of Michael A La Mode in Tutorial Mode for Beatmania IIDX, passed away on Saturday night, February 7, 2009, of a ruptured aorta.
He worked at Konami of Hawaii until 2006 as audio director of the XBox DDR series. When the Hawaii office was closed down, he was given the opportunity to move to Tokyo and work directly with Konami of Japan. He since lent his help to DDR SuperNOVA 2 and DDR X. I had the opportunity to meet him in the summer of 2007 when I went to Japan. He was a very easy-going, laid back guy who always knew how to bring a smile to people's faces. He left us far too soon, and will be dearly missed.

I may not agree with his vision for the series but this is just awful news. Perhaps the next game from Tokyo will be directed by someone else but I certainly will never forget his work. Such a young man, in his late 30s, at most early 40s.

Can I just say something? Why is this getting positive ratings? "Crap, a beloved member of Bemani has died, so I'm gonna click the +"?
Giving a news article a "+" rating doesn't mean that you like this particular story, but that you feel this was the type of thing you want bemanistyle posting as news articles. A news story of "NAOKI bought a 360" should be rated minus because that is useless information and no one cares. Bemani staff dying is kind of a big deal and IS something that should be reported, so you should give it a "+".

When this was introduced, it wasn't really made clear enough that it was supposed to be used like that.
Have any details about his death been released like where he died, memorial services, etc? Or is this a completely confidential matter? Did he leave a wife with kids?
