RUMOR: More beat'n groovy details!

Hot on the heels of last night's little "update", I've received the following info from the same anonymous sources. Thanks much to them for fleshing it out a little bit more.
- There are three gameplay modes: Arcade, Versus and Endless. Arcade mode allows you one song and then kicks you back to the Main Menu. Some other interesting stuff from the Main Menu, this game will take advantage of the XBox Live Vision camera.
- There are 9 songs in the game to start. Some highlights include Moon by DJ Taka, 100 sec. Kitchen Battle, Beyond the Earth, and Starmine (pop'n mix). Hopefully there will be more songs that can be unlocked, they have yet to complete each of the songs.
- Difficulty is on a "note" scale of 1-9. At the start there is only 3 button and 5 button mode. Higher difficulties must be an unlockable because the hardest song on 5 button mode is only a 3 note song (Beyond the Earth). The scoring system is the same as previous pop'n music titles.
- The art for the game is not like typical pop'n music. It's been redone and looks sharper but overall feels stiffer than current Pop'n Music character art. Also characters are locked until you complete their respective song, then you can use them in arcade mode. So far there are no returning characters from other Pop'n Music games (There have been 5 so far).
Early prognosis so far looks decent. It'll be fun for those that wanted more of a challenge from Boom Boom Rocket, but Pop'n fans may be put off by the new art, short song list, and lack of difficulty right out of the box. Color me excited.
How can there be an arcade mode if there are no Pop'n machines in the US. Remember, if it is only available in Japan, it doesn't exist to us in the US in Konami's eyes!
I'll DL it. I'll probably get annoyed at the lack of large colorful buttons to press in order to play it, but y'know what, it still looks like a welcome distraction, plus some free achievements lol
So, any idea up to what version they'll be taking songs from? I want to know if hoping for SigSig is reasonable or not. :>

woah, konami originals? this already sounds better than rock revolution (although it's kinda hard to be worse than a steaming pile).
But seriously though, this might actually be pretty good even though I probably won't like the updated (americanized) artwork. but that would be cool if it sparks interest in pop'n music. I wonder if some of the notes on higher button modes will require the d-pad? because I can imagine getting pissed because of constantly missing because I accidently pressed up and right instead of just right on the 360's aweful d-pad...

That and the awkward placement of the 360's d-pad would make a mode that uses the d-pad rather difficult
Excel, while you're over there, correct two unwashed heathens that have posted up until this moment. "DURR HURR ROCK BAND IS BETTER THAN THIS DURR"

If you can do 9key on a Dualshock I'd be impressed
Try as I might I just can't get the hang of 9key on a Dualshock. 5key is easy though.
Man the only way I could play pop'n for a couple years was with the dualshock, up until I could afford a controller :p I know that me and one of my friends got up into the mid 30s at least like that.
And actually before that, when i FIRST got into popn, I was just playing 2, 3, and 4 on dc with a standard dreamcast controller x3

Konami has been more lenient with that over the last couple of years and its evident in SN2US.

Definitely.
The way I see it, this is Konami's last chance to bring something other than DDR to the US. They'll need to be pretty smart about this for it to sell and if they can pull off good advertising and a catchy and entertaining songlist (that's not too obscure yet not too mainstream either)/Xbox controller gameplay, then we might just see Pop'n in the US.
Also that means cheaper pop'n controllers if they decide to release it as a regular game bundle :).
Although I'm against the idea of this game being downloadable only (from what it looks like), I'll do the same thing I did with beatmania US by showing it some US support when it releases just out of principle.
Not a game I'd ever buy, but it's great that Konami is taking a chance on this, especially with how Beatmania turned out. I'll say it again: they *have* to get away from the "simulation" albatross. It does nothing but invite all kinds of scathing criticism that shouldn't even have any relevance. What matters is if the game is fun, enjoyable, engaging, and (very important!) easy to learn. I know I'm not actually following in Chicane's footsteps, dammit. Let's have the game and the music be the thing.
PoMu has an absolutely astronomical number of songs at this point, and it'd be easy to pick out dozens of non-Japanese numbers in a variety of difficulties. And there's always the option of picking up a few songs from DDR or Karaoke. The sky's the limit here, and there are all kinds of ways to make this a success *if* Konami of America is willing to put the effort into it.

You know buying it would show interest for the full game...

Simulation albatross, huh? I've encountered a lot of waterfoul in my day, but that one's new to me.
