New Bemani series, "Jubeat," announced!

This is an unusually momentous announcement -- a completely new Bemani series is on the horizon!
jubeat, undergoing location testing across Japan between Dec. 22 and Dec. 24, features what seems to be a 4x4 grid of square-shaped panels located at arm height, with speakers on either side and a large subwoofer on the bottom of the cabinet. Initial information seems to indicate that the panels themselves light up and are pressed accordingly.
The official site as it stands now is http://www.konami.jp/bemani/jubeat/. More information will be posted as details come forward about this mysterious new game!

Eh... hope the game is better than Toy's March or Dance 86.4. Looks like a bunch of J-Pop so far.

It's probably like Pop'n Music where the actual buttons double as game screens. That can be cool. This can allow for creative ways to tell the player how to make music.
Well.... I'm glad it's not all colorful and happy like Pop'n is. It looks cool... I wonder how it'll work.... I guess you'll have to hit them to music.............. doubt I'll EVER get to play that.....

It sort of looks like there is a little screen right above the buttons. And I'm guessing they aren't really buttons but more of a touch-panel surface. It just looks like the squares will light up in certain patterns and you touch them to the beat of the music or something.

Song list so far is pretty lacking. Why do revivals? Bring out something new to the mix :/

Love the cabinet design, and this has potential for really interesting gameplay. Sometimes the simplest games can kick so much ass (Flamin' Finger).

Oh sweet I can't wait to break that screen! I mean...play the game.
@gtc: Flamin' Finger sucked so much ass, and I don't think I need to point out the double entendre of the name of the game.

Hey... it looks like a NPC (a DJ equipment i believe...), only several times larger...

CATSEYE is the name of the arcade, not a song title. Konami staff A and B are test players im guessing.
After reading some things on the official page, I can safely say that Jubeat is pronounced like you-beat (yu bi- to), and not jew-beat.
I have also learned that when you touch the panels exactly on time, there is some kind of visual effect in the panels that is larger than when your timing is not correct. The staff member writing in the journal on the website emphasizes "TOUCH" rather than "hit". He never uses the word hit (tatakau) but always says tacchi or TOUCH. So, if any of you make it out there to the location test don't hit the panels. They'll probably break. =/
well it looks like a real technotronic style cabinet but what i wana know is that is this some kinda new game that players will have to listen to the musical notes and follow the pattern on the touch screen square ?
Sweet, I was right. It sounds kinda fun but I really need to see it in motion first because the way the cabinet is set up, it looks so serious...but it sounds like a ticket game.
Anyway, looks... well I can't say. There's not enough to even guess on. It'll probably be fun.

This....looks really stupid. I want to see it in motion or something, I don't like to think that bemani would make something as lame as this game looks.
I will wait until I know more about it to pass final judgement on it but as it stands I really don't see this fitting in with the rest of the series at all.
this looks awesome,i just hope it doesnt die or end after 1 or 2 games.

I think it's a really dumb game, even though it was just announced and we don't have any gameplay videos of it yet!
...Seriously, I'm gonna wait for the videos before passing judgment, because you never know if you've got a winner on your hands.

The cabinet looks really neat. However, the gameplay still seems a mystery to me. Oh well. I'm not gonna say much until I actually get to see how the hell this game works. Anyways, I guess KONAMI decided that at the point that both pop'n and IIDX had their fifteenth versions, it was time for something new.

"After reading some things on the official page, I can safely say that Jubeat is pronounced like you-beat (yu bi- to), and not jew-beat."
Sounds like a japanese abbreviation (and/or a pun) for "Yubi Biito", ("Finger Beat" for those who don't speak japanese).
Looks like the buttons are on a touch screen and there's another little screen that shows what your partner's doing...i dunno my japanese isn't all that great
Song list doesn't look all that great right now...but it's only a partial...so hopefully we'll see some better stuff...unless konami blew the song budget on the touch screens :P

Omega/Deca: i'm sure DDR seemed incredibly stupid at first so don't be so quick to trash this. There aren't even gameplay videos yet so why don't you at least wait until THEN to make baseless assumptions that it will be terrible.

ranatalus:
I said I'm waiting to see gameplay and more info before making my final judgement of the game. I'm doing my best to keep an open mind, it's just made a decidedly iffy first impression :(
