New Bemani series, "Jubeat," announced!
Posted by rmz - Sun 12/23 2007 - 12:01 AM - 8528 Views

This is an unusually momentous announcement -- a completely new Bemani series is on the horizon!

jubeat, undergoing location testing across Japan between Dec. 22 and Dec. 24, features what seems to be a 4x4 grid of square-shaped panels located at arm height, with speakers on either side and a large subwoofer on the bottom of the cabinet. Initial information seems to indicate that the panels themselves light up and are pressed accordingly.

The official site as it stands now is http://www.konami.jp/bemani/jubeat/. More information will be posted as details come forward about this mysterious new game!

(thanks to noisy doll for the flyer translation)

There's no screen?

A rather...unfortunate name?

Seems like it could be cool though, I'd like to know exactly how it's played.

I'm really looking forward to seeing and hearing how this plays too, especially what style of music they'll be focusing on.

b00geyman Posted by b00geyman - Sun 12/23 2007 - 01:27 AM [ quote ]
interesting...

btw was toys march or dance 86.4 ever considered as bemani?

Synthetic Dreamer Posted by Synthetic Dreamer - Sun 12/23 2007 - 01:30 AM [ quote ]
I think Toy's March is considered part of the Bemani series as songs from it were included in the 10th anniversary compilation.

It seems like a "casual" arcade game. Like you'd get tickets for it or something.

Jubeat Playlog Tunes (that I can read):

CAT'S EYE
Love so sweet
KONAMI STAFF-B
My Love
POP STAR
YMCA

Cat's Eye, eh? About time it came back. :3

Gosha Posted by Gosha - Sun 12/23 2007 - 02:11 AM [ quote ]
Eh... hope the game is better than Toy's March or Dance 86.4. Looks like a bunch of J-Pop so far.

It's probably like Pop'n Music where the actual buttons double as game screens. That can be cool. This can allow for creative ways to tell the player how to make music.

Posted by Dreamcube017 - Sun 12/23 2007 - 02:16 AM [ quote ]
Hmmm... I wonder what Konami staff B sounds like.

Well.... I'm glad it's not all colorful and happy like Pop'n is. It looks cool... I wonder how it'll work.... I guess you'll have to hit them to music.............. doubt I'll EVER get to play that.....

Haha...pop star. Love that song.

Darkbeat (+) Phantom Posted by Darkbeat (+) Phantom - Sun 12/23 2007 - 02:55 AM [ quote ]
It sort of looks like there is a little screen right above the buttons. And I'm guessing they aren't really buttons but more of a touch-panel surface. It just looks like the squares will light up in certain patterns and you touch them to the beat of the music or something.

Loserbait Posted by Loserbait - Sun 12/23 2007 - 03:32 AM [ quote ]
Song list so far is pretty lacking. Why do revivals? Bring out something new to the mix :/

Posted by gtc - Sun 12/23 2007 - 04:10 AM [ quote ]
Love the cabinet design, and this has potential for really interesting gameplay. Sometimes the simplest games can kick so much ass (Flamin' Finger).

Posted by mirasaki - Sun 12/23 2007 - 05:25 AM [ quote ]
Oh sweet I can't wait to break that screen! I mean...play the game.

@gtc: Flamin' Finger sucked so much ass, and I don't think I need to point out the double entendre of the name of the game.

Posted by psycfsaki - Sun 12/23 2007 - 05:35 AM [ quote ]
Hey... it looks like a NPC (a DJ equipment i believe...), only several times larger...

b00geyman Posted by b00geyman - Sun 12/23 2007 - 05:50 AM [ quote ]
CATSEYE is the name of the arcade, not a song title. Konami staff A and B are test players im guessing.

partial songlist;

・è²*ã‘ãªã„ã§
・全力少年
・POP STAR
・気分上々
・I'M IN THE MOOD FOR DANCING
・粉雪
・YMCA
・天体観測

So there's no screen but each of the buttons is a screen? Sounds like musical wack-a-mole

psycfsaki: it's called an MPC and it's made by Akai, although there are many clones and MIDI controllers that serve similar functions.

To me, it looks like it's going to be rhythmic Spider Stomp for your hands, but if it makes it over here somewhere I'll give it a shot.

Kσn Posted by Kσn - Sun 12/23 2007 - 10:05 AM [ quote ]
ok, so the point of the game is to stand there, and push the squares that light up.

How would you even be able to choose a song if there is no screen?

snapps Posted by snapps - Sun 12/23 2007 - 10:50 AM [ quote ]
I could give a shit about the music at the moment and focus on the gameplay.

This also sounds slightly what I had in mind for their next game, so i'm a bit excited.

noisy doll☆ Posted by noisy doll☆ - Sun 12/23 2007 - 11:34 AM [ quote ]
After reading some things on the official page, I can safely say that Jubeat is pronounced like you-beat (yu bi- to), and not jew-beat.

I have also learned that when you touch the panels exactly on time, there is some kind of visual effect in the panels that is larger than when your timing is not correct. The staff member writing in the journal on the website emphasizes "TOUCH" rather than "hit". He never uses the word hit (tatakau) but always says tacchi or TOUCH. So, if any of you make it out there to the location test don't hit the panels. They'll probably break. =/

ramyishappy12 Posted by ramyishappy12 - Sun 12/23 2007 - 11:44 AM [ quote ]
well it looks like a real technotronic style cabinet but what i wana know is that is this some kinda new game that players will have to listen to the musical notes and follow the pattern on the touch screen square ?

Darkbeat (+) Phantom Posted by Darkbeat (+) Phantom - Sun 12/23 2007 - 11:56 AM [ quote ]
Sweet, I was right. It sounds kinda fun but I really need to see it in motion first because the way the cabinet is set up, it looks so serious...but it sounds like a ticket game.

New Bemani to the family... Wow.

I won't mind trying one. :D (Love the colors.)

ITG is to Kyle Ward as JuBeat is to DJ Suwami?

Anyway, looks... well I can't say. There's not enough to even guess on. It'll probably be fun.

Deca Posted by Deca - Sun 12/23 2007 - 03:13 PM [ quote ]
This....looks really stupid. I want to see it in motion or something, I don't like to think that bemani would make something as lame as this game looks.

I will wait until I know more about it to pass final judgement on it but as it stands I really don't see this fitting in with the rest of the series at all.

Omgitsjohn890 Posted by Omgitsjohn890 - Sun 12/23 2007 - 03:17 PM [ quote ]
this looks awesome,i just hope it doesnt die or end after 1 or 2 games.

DizzyBum Posted by DizzyBum - Sun 12/23 2007 - 05:12 PM [ quote ]
I think it's a really dumb game, even though it was just announced and we don't have any gameplay videos of it yet!

...Seriously, I'm gonna wait for the videos before passing judgment, because you never know if you've got a winner on your hands.

DJ OMiY Posted by DJ OMiY - Sun 12/23 2007 - 05:36 PM [ quote ]
The cabinet looks really neat. However, the gameplay still seems a mystery to me. Oh well. I'm not gonna say much until I actually get to see how the hell this game works. Anyways, I guess KONAMI decided that at the point that both pop'n and IIDX had their fifteenth versions, it was time for something new.

Thanks, I was wondering if that was the case with the name.
This better not be another beatmania da-da-da

Sounds like a japanese abbreviation (and/or a pun) for "Yubi Biito", ("Finger Beat" for those who don't speak japanese).

Looks like the buttons are on a touch screen and there's another little screen that shows what your partner's doing...i dunno my japanese isn't all that great

Song list doesn't look all that great right now...but it's only a partial...so hopefully we'll see some better stuff...unless konami blew the song budget on the touch screens :P

Omega/Deca: i'm sure DDR seemed incredibly stupid at first so don't be so quick to trash this. There aren't even gameplay videos yet so why don't you at least wait until THEN to make baseless assumptions that it will be terrible.

All I could find were those pamphlet scans, a poster, display boxes, and song difficulty info:

Song select images?

I said I'm waiting to see gameplay and more info before making my final judgement of the game. I'm doing my best to keep an open mind, it's just made a decidedly iffy first impression :(

For the idiots that bashed it for not having a screen, the buttons can show images, and there is a small screen above the buttons.
