Activision today released a few new videos to showcase its upcoming DJ Hero title, featuring two versus tracks, comprised of two songs each: Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" vs. N.E.R.D.'s "Lapdance" and GrandMaster Flash Featuring DJ Kool & DJ Demo's "Here Comes My DJ" vs. Gary Numan's "Cars."

This looks really fucking cool actually.

Two more awesome-sounding mix-clips.
Activision, when are you going to give us a full song demo?
And also, I REALLY hope someone manages to rip the soundtrack, if it isn't officially released on a separate disc. I didn't care much for Grandmaster Flash's voice-over on the clips, but the songs themselves seem very listenable as stand-alones.
Alas for $120 price tags. Between this, Rock Band, and Lips, I've got a solid reason to buy my own 360... and spend several hundred dollars I DON'T YET HAVE. UGH.
It's nice that they're trying something "different" here, but what i've seen of the core gameplay still hasn't convinced me that it's worth dropping $120.
yeah, that's true...I withdrew my Pre-Order cause I went into a lot of discussions with friends at school about this game and we wanna make sure it's worth it! so far we liked the songs they put together in DJHero.com but these two new ones are kind of not what we wanted!
looks like a legit dj simulation thats not a iidx ripoff
Definitely not a IIDX ripoff, but this still isn't ANYWHERE close to actual DJing. Maybe turntablism is a better word for it, but I guarantee, top DJs do not scratch or mashup like that. They mix.

i'd rather see a controller demo before i give my completely biased opinion.

1. A lot of you don't know shit about scratching or DJ-ing in the Hip Hop World.
2. And to all you IIDX fans, that don't know shit about DJ-ing at all. DJ-ing is an art, not just mash-ups and mixes. Until you REALLY learn hot o DJ, shut up and wait.
3. The interface is Great and GRANDMASTER FLASH is the shit. shoot my dad DJ-ed with him in NY&C a few years back, and he sad an album out on Myspace.

Ardi, I've been DJing for 5 years. If you're saying I don't know shit about DJing, you're quite mistaken. I know about turntablism and all that, and I know that's what this game is trying to emulate, but by saying "This is DJing" they're wrong. DJing is an art, yeah, I agree, but by putting this on a train track, they're taking that away. There's no beatmatching, no cueing, no self-chosen tracklists, nothing. This is FAR from actual DJing. This isn't art at all. This is as close to DJing as IIDX is to writing electronic music.

True. all I'm saying is that, it's just a game.
But, the problem is that every time a game like these come out they complain about the damn songs, and knowing this game, Hormonix and MTV are going to put packs for it, once it gets popular. Besides this game isnt really art, its an emulation, just like every other. and if it would of been like actual DJing, it would cost more. And people would be bleeding dry out fo your money, just to keep the upgrades, and song packs.
I'm honestly impressed with what they're pulling off here--definitely seems like a fresh addition to rhythm games, and it seems it could take a while to get used to this even from other series. Yeah, the price sucks, but I'm a lot more interested than I first was.

I might have gone insane from the blow I took to my head earlier, but are there still people trying to compare this to actual music creation on a bemani forum? I thought we did that years ago.

And while I normally hate mashups, from these and the other 30-second clips of gameplay, the soundtrack seems really well done. The fact that Activision is treating these as mashups and not stand-alone songs is what does it for me: this way, they don't have to worry about genre limitations (i.e. no guitar part = no inclusion in Rock Band or Guitar Hero).
The rewind is a new thing, though. Don't remember hearing anything about that before... how's that going to work, I wonder? And what other effects do they have in store for us?

"Hormonix" and MTV are not Activision.

OK, now I've seen this run, and listening to some of the mash-ups, this actually is starting to make sense. Maybe I actually would get this after all. The price tag of £109 is a bit scary though.

Likewise, don't assume blindly that all the IIDX fans don't know shit about DJing.
(not saying you are, but you could come off as a bit of a hypocrite)
This isn't real DJing, it is just a game, so I don't see what knowing what real DJing is has to do with it per-se.
Anywhoo, this game looks better than Scratch in my opinion.
Seriously. I feel like a good amount of the haters are just pissy about the COMMERCIAL RAP MUZIK in the game.
That little bit of frustration out of the way, this looks really cool (ROCKIT FTW!!), although Scratch's track listing has some really great songs (Kanye's "Flashing Lights", Beastie Boys' "Intergalactic", Biggie, Dr. Dre). I just don't know which way to go.
Edit: Confirmed appearances from Cut Chemist, Z-Trip, DJ AM, and DJ Shadow make me lean back to DJ Hero.

Those videos just make me want to play IIDX more.
Naughty girl @Queen's palace to be specific.

I would much rather play Naughty Girl @ Queen's Palace on this than IIDX, actually.

This is turntablism!
you are both wrong, this is a VIDEO GAME. DJ Hero will be about as much DJing as Guitar Hero is playing the guitar, DDR is dancing and pop n music is.... hell I dunno, making pop corn?
To me it sounds like 2 badly mixed together songs with scratch sounds in between some parts.
It looks OK.
I guess it's just not my style of game.

I don't understand why some people think this game is going to be so horrible. And no one who does think that wants to elaborate on their viewpoint. Frankly, this looks like the best new idea for a rhythm game since Guitar Hero. I can understand if you aren't a huge fan of the music selection, but aside from a few obvious cash-grabs (like Kanye West), it's actually LESS mainstream hip-hop oriented than Scratch. We've got Gary Numan and the Mamas and the Papas in here, for crying out loud! So if you just don't like the mixes, that's one thing, but don't go saying it's a top 40 whore.

Honestly I just want doubles play in this game because I know it will be mayhemic.

Gameplay seems to be coming along nicely but still isn't worth the price tag, however the game seems to have promise now. Still feel iffy about the soundtrack.

Elaboration:
Really tacky DJ voice-overs, foreseeable mixing limits (i.e. you only get to mix these songs in given combinations -- which basically means creative potential is limited to what they give you. Granted, this makes some sense, but what happens to all the mashups people end up not liking, or are left wanting to try? Gotta become a real DJ for those), that silly freaking controller (which I won't judge entirely until I use, but it gets listed anyways), NO DOUBLES MODE!?, "Euphoria", it's another DJ game that's nothing like actual DJ-ing, admittedly limited in multiplayer (here's to hoping they wake up and somehow throw this in with the next Guitar Hero band bullshit, it may actually be worth something then), the astronomical base price (for, what? $60 more you can buy a full World Tour/Rock Band kit... and all you get is a turntable? What, is it plated in solid fscking gold? The one guitar kits usually run about $80....), the rampant fanboyism despite the game not being out for three months, and the fact that I'm probably going to buy it just so I can have all the empirical evidence I need to openly bash it further.
I'm surprised people never noticed before how snide I am when it comes to popular things. They really have to prove themselves to me on this one, because I'm not sold that this is the best idea ever. At least Scratch was being done by people I could have somewhat trusted to know what they were doing.
Oh, and random question -- wasn't Beat'n Groovy supposed to have DLC? I know it's unrelated but I can add that to my list of upsetting things.

I'm not going to bother quoting anyone because if I did, this would just be nothing but quotes...
The thing with DJ games is I want to be able to create my own thing sort of... or at least my own mix of the songs they have. And it'd be reallyt cool if we could import our own songs from a flash drive, beatsync them, and mix those in too. That'd be really awesome.
And I'm kinda leaning more towards Scratch, beacuse I like the controller and they said you can put your own beats to the songs which leads to a bit of customization.
Also, it's true that it's not actual DJ-ing, but that doesn't mean that we should be stuck on a solid track of only what they provide. Also I hope there's a freestyle mode where we can make up our own scratches and stuff like Amplitude had because that was awesome... even though it was just a brightly colored orb pulsing to the music.
