frzamonkey, manager of an arcade in Daytona, FL that I got in contact via Joystiq is at IAAPA and contacted me from the show floor to deliver these few small updates:
- The game is basically a modified version of Guitar Hero III running on PC hardware at it's current state. No word on whether anything major will be added or changed before it's release as of yet.
- The Konami/Activision partnership may have more to do with the potential earnings of the game rather than Konami giving up on the US market or both companies wanting to play nice. Not too surprising, but at least that doesn't necessarily mean the end of GFdm.
- The controllers for the arcade version are modeled after the Guitar Hero World Tour guitars, but built more like the Guitar Freaks AC guitars. There go any durability concerns anyone should be having.
- Online functionality is definitely planned, and will be handled through the same servers as Raw Thrills' hit Big Buck Hunter titles.
- Song updates through the online connection are a possibility.
Above everything else, he does say that the gameplay remains fun and true to it's form. We should have some more updates as well as some pictures as the show continues, with a larger feature on the show as a whole as it wraps up. Keep checking back.
edit; Pictures Added. Big-ups to mDaWg and his boss Ed.
I just back to the hotel from the IAAPA Expo. I asked the GH rep about a few things.
-They haven't decided what they're going to do about the number of songs per pay. They said they were looking into making all the songs priced different per length. The arcade I work and a lot of ardaces out there are using card systems isntead of tokens, so I'm not sure how that's going to work exactly.
-The Guitars and Cord are not the finally model, they're still in production apparently. The Rep made it sound like they're a lot like the GF ASCs but with lights on the neck.
-Konami's hand in it seems to be just for the patents and making monies.
-Behind the 4 demo units was an American Idol Karaoke Booth thing, with Konami's logo, same company and same reasoning I guess.
-They have one of these and the American Idol thing test locating at some movie theater in Boston.
