Rhythm Destruction Mixes Rhythm and Shooting, Features SCI Recordings

I've had Bemanistyle user MixMasterLar tell me a few times about an upcoming rhythm title being developed for the PC and, hopefully, later, on other downloadable formats such as Xbox LIVE Arcade and iPhone, entitled Rhythm Destruction. The title, to be published by GamePro Labs, was previewed at a recent STORM event and is an interesting mix of space shooter and rhythm action. With the game moving along well, the game has seen a few details and media pop up online to promote the title.
The basic gameplay of Rhythm Destruction has players dodging enemy spacecraft while timing button presses to the game's music in order to fire your weapons and take them out. Rhythm Destruction is currently planned to have more than 20 songs at launch and ITG buffs will be pleased to know Kyle Ward and SCI Recordings will be lending much talent to the game to showcase songs such as "Dynamo," "Esparanza," "Hasse Mich," "Machine Rhythm" and "Stop and Go."
We're still awaiting more details on the title but, as it stands, Rhythm Destruction's PC version will feature online leaderboards, three difficulty levels per song and players can control the gameplay with the keyboard or Xbox 360 controller. Until then, feel free to head over to the game's official site and check out a preview of the title with the official Rhythm Destruction trailer:

Looks like it could be pretty cool, I've always thought these game genres would go well together.
This... doesn't look all that challenging, to be quite honest. No where near the difficulty (and fun) of the Bit.Trip series of games.
At least in Rez, you had to aim. This is just time your shots to the bass of the song. Oh, no. Three enemies at double speed. It doesn't look impressive. I'll have to play it to give it a fair judgment, though.

I don't think they should advertise this game as somthing like Ikaruga. Doesn't look too similar to it. Looks more like Space Invaders or something.
MechaGai: While alot of the songs are fairly easy to ease alot of players into the game, some of the ones I tried at the DDR STORM event where pretty hard (This game had ITG buffs getting wiped out at parts). I'm told the release version will contain alot more hetic levels. As far as fun goes, this game pretty much sucked me in and the only reason I even played IIDX at the event was becourse RuuCreation had to pack up and go home after awhile.
Gosha: I agree, it plays out alot more like one of the 1942 games except that all of the preview levels are alot slower. I'm told the final release will speed things up abit.

There's an Xbox Live Indie Game called Groov that mixes twin stick shooting with music. Try it.
Sounds like a fun concept. I'm not totally sold on the presentation yet but the gameplay could be pretty nice, especially if they do step up the difficulty from what we see here.

I love Ikaruga (have this) and ITG, but I wonder if mashing the two would work out.

yeah because the gameplay is totally the same as itg
Hey this is the developer for Rhythm Destruction :p I wanted to address a few things i saw people mention in comments. A lot of the graphics in the trailer were placeholder graphics, especially the level objects, and the 2D sprites. Since the trailer was made I've begun swapping out the 2D enemy sprites with much better looking 3D models.
@Gosha: The reason I chose Ikaruga as a comparison to a top down shooter as apposed to choosing something else was Ikaruga has sort of a rhythm element to begin with when switching colors back and forth dodging bullets. I realize the graphics aren't as good but Rhythm Destruction is being made by just 2 people.
@Kakumei: The core gameplay is like any rhythm game like ITG/DDR/etc only difference is there are no arrows you have to hit the button to the beat of the music when the circles match up to the same size as the icon. Sort of like Elite Beat Agents in a way too.
@Zealous One: Don't worry about the difficulty being too easy like in the trailer. That was taken from a stage on easy and since then I have added the enemies with the ability to return fire. I'm probably going to make another teaser trailer before too long once I get more of the final graphics in.
@MixMasterLar: Hey dude! Yeah the videos from the trailer were from the same build you played at Storm. The game has changed quite a bit since then. My brother that made the trailer took a little while to get around to making the trailer so it was using videos from the older build.
