RUMOR: Rumor: Guitar Hero Coming Officially to Arcades
Posted by DJ LongCat - Fri 10/03 2008 - 12:54 PM - 1657 Views

Nothing right now is confirmed but there are rumors going around that say that Arcade Dev "Raw Thrills" has secured the arcade license to make an arcade version of Guitar Hero with a release date of 1st Quarter 2009.

Quote:
Unconfirmed reports have surfaced that Raw Thrills have acquired the rights from Activision to release a Guitar Hero game for arcade use. According to sources, the machine will be released in the first quarter of 2009.

The Guitar Hero music game series has seen phenomenal success on home consoles, with the series earning over US$1 billion. Guitar Hero is very similar to Konami's GuitarFreaks, with players using a plastic guitar-shaped peripheral to play in time with coloured notes which appear on-screen.

Bootleg arcade versions of Guitar Hero games have been spotted throughout Asia, but this is the first news that an arcade version licensed by Activision is in the works. We are waiting for an official response from Raw Thrills, and will keep you updated with the latest information.
nestlekwik edit: I'll save everyone the trouble of waiting for a response. I have contacted Raw Thrills in regard to the matter and a representative of the company had the following to say on the topic: "We have a policy of not commenting or feeding speculation on games in development (or not in development, as the case may be)." So, there you have it. Raw Thrills is not confirming the rumor ... however, they are not denying it either. You can take that however you want to for the moment, so until we hear any official word from any of the parties involved, you'll have to continue to take the rumor as worth a grain of salt.

FUCK GH however this is actually good because this will bring much needed profits back to arcade owners, and maybe we won't see one closing every WEEK.

They don't already? Even two years ago when I worked in an arcade, people would run up to the GuitarFreaks machine like "OMG! Guitar Heroz!!" And then when they realized it wasn't GH, they would call it a rip-off.

I'm not sure why everyone is so down on this. A Guitar Hero arcade cabinet would be absolutely fantastic news for arcades and their owners. If you don't like an arcade cabinet, well, just don't put your money into it.

It would be nice if it was in an actual US arcade somewhere. I think the location test V4 cabs from BZN has been gone for quite some time now... so what happened, Konami gave up on it?

You don't know the bemani community very well do you? They're far less loyal than you'd think.

Not me though. This is pretty much a worst case scenario.

This is kind of cool, actually. I'd play it in between DDR/PIU sets. :P

Maybe Konami could release a competing product in the US from this news, from their own house and not someone else's, like Rock Revolution (HINT HINT HINT HINT HINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

It failed according to the guys at the UBeat/DDRX testing.

No, they'll look at the beatmania machines and call it a ripoff.

As much as I hate Guitar Hero, it has the popularity and the demand for such a thing to happen. If it does, it might have a chance to save American arcades from closing... but it'll have to compete against the console counterparts.

If any of this does happen, it'll just inflate Activision's ego with the franchise.

"LOL, luk guyz! Wii saved da arcadez in Americuh!! Wu're awesum!!"

And they'll use the profit from the machines to beat their record of releasing multiple GH games within a year. XD

kssael_XG Posted by kssael_XG - Sat 10/04 2008 - 03:28 AM     [ quote ]
You don't belong to the arcade, GH! GF&DM takes away the spotlight!!!

Wej Posted by Wej - Sat 10/04 2008 - 07:09 AM     [ quote ]
They are just getting the license so that they can get rid of the bootlegs maybe?

yyr Posted by yyr - Sat 10/04 2008 - 11:20 AM     [ quote ]
If they do this, I hope they share code with Neversoft and release something that plays exactly like the new GH games, but with new songs and charts.

If they don't, I'm sure RT will screw it up somehow, and the hardcore fans will refuse to play it because something about it is different from the console versions.

Now watch as Rock Band attempts to do it better by getting Sega to do RB AC.

I don't understand why everyone hates Guitar Hero, I love it and it's not bad. There is absolutely no way you can hate it. It's all fanboyism in my opinion.

Don't think I'm a fanboy, though. I'd love to play GF, but I can't find a machine over here.

Sorry, but my hating Guitar Hero has nothing to do with Guitar Freaks. In fact, I don't even like GF that much. I hate Guitar Hero because Activision/Neversoft/Red Octane ruined the series. =/
