Trailers and Screenshots released for 2010 DanceDanceRevolution Titles

It seems we don't have to wait for tonight to get a first look at the new DanceDanceRevolution PS3 title as a trailer and screenshots have been released.
Some of the new Modes we can see from these screenshots are support for the PlayStation Move peripheral. The target arrows now include two circles on either side of L, D, U, R which will signify either moving the controller to one of the diagonal larger circles on either side of the screen.
Other modes include an interesting Dance Off mode stacking 4 players against each other on one mat and switching off as directed by the game. Club Mode is a Nonstop-esq mode with some Battle Mode gimmicks where players pick between 4 to 20 songs or unlimited until their gauge is empty. Edit Mode also makes an appearance in one screenshot. Mentioned in the press release are Challenge Levels formally known as Octo Mode which includes 4 extra diagonal arrows featured on the new PS3 pad.
Notable details while looking at the freeplay screenshots is that the Combo counter is very low on screen and the judgments are displayed above the target arrows. The Noteskins have changed from the previous demos we've seen and all the arrows seem to be on Vivid.
New features such as a Chain Arrow and Groove Trigger are mentioned in the trailer but its hard to say what these are. Up to 4 players are able to play simultaneously like previous Xbox versions. Sharing game play videos are supported which sounds similar to the Def Jam Rapstar feature where videos are taken with the Eye Toy and submitted to social media sites like YouTube and Facebook. DLC will also be available, but no details are given.
The PS3 version of DanceDanceRevolution is looking to be a unique one, but we will soon hear from tonight's launch party event if players are going to enjoy these changes. Release is said to be Fall 2010.
shockingly enough i'm really looking forward to this. if they can catch the spark that they made with extreme 2 and the max series. yeah i'd say yeah it'd be a hit
Oh no! DDR's popularity in the US started getting less popular because of American music games, so they made this one look more American! It's gonna be soooooooo bad.
American Bemani fans are probably the hardest people in the world to please.

I'm confused... the "PS" button is also called "Back"? Look at the 4th screenshot.
Damn, dunno why there is hate but this looks pretty awesome. It doesn't look like every other DDR before it but what the hell, something new isn't gonna be that bad. It'd look amazing on the PS3, if what I'm imagining turns out to come forth. Hope the songlist is awesome to match it, though.

I thought about this, and i guess it's because we're stuck in the middle of Japanese released games and our own.

I don't see the characters and this statement is invalid. 'S why I bought a PS2, because the Playstation series seemed to stay on the arcade-based track and not... whatever this is. It'll please some people, but I'll pass on a PS3 for now...

So, who's bright idea was it to homogenize the look? At least the older beta looked like DDR. This just looks like one of the tens of other generic dance games out on the market.
I'm disappointed, I really don't like this look at all. :(

I don't see how this is terrible. The graphics work fine (most likely a lot of it is inspired by ITG2, and spurred from their acquisition if ITG). This is a home version (the first of its console) and it's obviously bound to be different. I'd like to see what Konami can do with this (also the PS3 is the only current-gen console i have so derp).

I played it tonight, and I'm definately looking forward to this. Yes, it seems bland from the screenshots, but watching it in motion is sexy smooooth.

Screw Bad Romance, CrushCrushCrush is in (with a very fun chart as well).

Same. The beta looked a lot better. We were supposed to get new character dance animations, dancing stages that would have real time night and day effects, and as I mentioned earlier a story mode. How the hell did that all get thrown away for these stupid generic looking background effects? If I didn't know any better, I would've thought the screenshots were from an updated Stepmania 4. I had been looking forward to this since the beta, and now I'm completely disheartened.
Oh my gosh this even looks worst than DDR Universe 2. The theme its awful looks like stepmania or ITG, no DDR characters and more focus on america market makes me think DDR should stay better on PS2 forever or at least better make this game a PSN/XBLA tittle because only around of 50 songs make this game even worse.
Im more interested in Dance Masters than this, but im not going to buy kinect because Kinect its a big Fail right now and 150 dollars is too much.
I dunno why so many are so hung up on characters... years back, only a few people complained when they were dropped from DDRMAX, and by the time Extreme came out nobody missed them any more. Maybe I'm just used to ITG, Pump and DDR Extreme, but I honestly don't see why people care about having the characters onscreen during gameplay. It's not like you're watching them, anyway...you're playing the game.
That said, I really want to see some gameplay videos or hear some more accounts. If the judgments are hard to see or the effects are distracting, then that sucks. I only care about the gameplay...backgrounds are just backgrounds.

I don't speak for everyone, but I sure missed them. It could be why I'm not so attached to Max-Extreme. Maybe it's because I've been with DDR since the beginning, and I'm so used to them. For me, they kept the games from looking boring and flat. I also enjoyed learning character trivia. Just because something doesn't affect the gameplay directly, doesn't mean it's not nice to have. I can actually look at the arrows and watch the characters at the same time. I keep my eyes focused towards the middle of the scrolling area rather than the step zone. As weird as this sounds, I actually play worse without the characters. Because they move with the bpm, it helps me to stay in rhythm and sometimes give me a heads-up on any sudden bpm changes.
My Life Would Suck Without You, now THERE's a good song.
The guy who sings Hey, Soul Sister should be banned from singing forever.
....I like the song I'm Yours, but how the hell does it fit here? I can see it having an interesting stepchart if it goes with the lyrics, but geez, even Suddenly I See felt more DDR appropriate >_>.

I think the characters, at least the ability to choose them, gives the game a little more... personality? Customization? Like in games like Pokemon where you can pick and choose your favorites and show 'em off. Which is like the arcade versions where you can unlock new accessories and stuff for your favorite character. :3 And as LNDN mentioned, there's some lovely little-known trivia that some of us think is fun to know.
Even in Extreme AC, I'd purposely play .59 and ever snow just for the Devil Zukin and Alice. Nobody would really get it, but it was cool to me. EX was my first mix and I fell in love with the charas anyway. :P
Plus, what other game are you ever gonna find Zukins in?

It's like DDR and ITG had a baby. And it's not that ugly, the HD is hard to draw for, which is probably the reason X2 isn't on Ps3.
Needs more % scoring and custom songs.

Hey, Soul Sister is performed by Train.

SOMEBODY CALL THE WAAAAMBULANCE. It's not just a rehash of every DDR game since 1998, IM SO FUCKING DEVASTATED. Seriously guys, you've got TEN YEARS worth of console games of the same old DD-fucking-R and you're whinging because the new one isn't EXACTLY THE SAME? Fuck you all, you're impossible to please.
Personally, I'm looking forward to something new, I like the style and I like the direction. Can't wait to pick it up :D I look forward to glowing dildo wand DDR!

imo the PS move functionality is a rather useless gimmick (not to mention the ps move itself is rather useless anyway), but other than that the game looks solid

I know, sorry for being unclear, but Pat Monahan, the lead singer of Train, needs to stop failing at singing.
Also, I kinda like the style. I think it's pretty. I like the songwheel over the X2 style, for whatever reason, so I'm glad it's back (won't fret if the X2 style remains).
Not a fan of the shadowy characters, but I'll get used to it >_>.

I honestly couldn't care less about the characters. I don't miss them in Extreme (which nothing will ever top again), and beside, aren't you spose to be looking at the stepcharts, not some characters doing the same god same dance routines for the last 2-3 versions of DDR.

To me this looks about as much like DDR as beat'n groovy did pop'n music. That's why I don't care for what it looks like. If it wasn't for the logo, would you be able to tell this is a DDR game?

Considering the fact that there are four arrows and it still has eurobeat, obviously.
Er, wait, I mean
WAAAAAAAAAAH IT'S 2010 AND THEY FINALLY CHANGED THE LOOK OF THE GAME FROM 1998! And there's American music that people will know and like and not enough eurobeat from artists that just didn't cut it and ended up working for Konami!
At a glance I thought the screens were from ITG. (lulz)
And well, yeah like everyone else said (I didn't really read any other comments, just skimmed a few tbh) too complicated and over the top looking with the graphics, blah blah blah.
But what the hell do I care, I don't own, nor do I plan on owning, a PS3.
I just hope the song list is good. If it is, then to me the game is a success. I would give up characters and preferable designs a million times over for an amazing song list.

I love how everybody keeps making jokes about this game looking like ITG when it really doesn't look like ITG at all.
It does look a bit like the DDR Universe series, however.

Oh no, people have opinions. How else will they know what we the fans and consumers of DDR like and don't like? Yes, I did happen to love the first ten years of DDR, and am just now pointing out things I don't like about this "new direction." How does that make me impossible to please? I was pleased for 10 years, amirite?
In all honesty, as someone mentioned before, without the DDR logo slapped on the screen, I would've thought this was some other company's very late attempt at jumping on the dance game bandwagon, and early stab at this psmove novelty controller.

Watch, it's gonna cost $100 bucks with a piss poor pad, and there's going to be like, 30 songs.
